I sincerely hope that these are fake... The current site has a nice feel to it that's really unique to Games Workshop. But this new look seems to be some general mainstream site that anybody could make. It just doesn't seem as nice or organized in the least bit.

The old front page fritted a lot more stuff in a page than this.

does not look THAT bad IMO .
And my guess is that you get less up-front because the layout is responsive (otherwise I wouldn't understand why they made the switch at this point) - this means it will adjust nicely to mobile devices screen and funky resolutions.

It reminds me of what Wizards of the Coast did to their community pages.

That is not a compliment.

Is looking professional really the best way to go though? The current website looks very attractive, and when I first saw it a handful of years ago when I got into the hobby, it instantly drew me in. If I saw this website, I don't think I would have spent quite as much time on it as I had.

Just my two cents though.

Not sure if serious... The white space is not actually part of the page, it is just the background. On any real browser that wouldn't be shown, you'd only have the section with content in it.

I think GW's website front page should be a big cinematic battle field, like one of FWs heavily done up dioramas but with all the different 40k armies converging. Click on the army of interest and go to its section.

This guy knows whats up.

Honeslty something jazzy was what I was expecting, doing the website up and all. I dont know man, looks a lot 'less' than the old one.

It actually looks like the website went through some cost cutting exercises.

I now want a jazzy photoshopped battle diorama.

That's a pretty good idea, although they could to one for each game (40k, fantasy, LOTR).

That's a lose/lose kind of thing though. If they do the cool battle diorama, it's fun for a week and then everyone complains that it is too hard to navigate, etc.

Only if they make it work that way. They should, but not all web developers do.

Exactly. And when the spouses/parents go on the site to buy a gift they will be confused and close their browsers resulting in a loss of sales.

Fair enough, but I haven't seen a site do it that way in a long time, so I doubt GW decided to.

I love how people are already longing for the old (current) GW site if this is the future setup.

The current site is gak. All it is is a glorified storefront. There is practically no reason to go on it unless you are buying something from them.

Hmmm, current date 20 March, rumoured site launch 7th April? So that's almost 3 weeks away.

Odds of this being a finished screen? Pretty low I suspect.

Wouldn't surprise me. GW seems to have an unequivocal love for all things associated with tablets; as all their customers own one, right?

or perhaps there site analytic have shown a strong uptick in traffic to the site from tablets? I work in eCommerce and the industry trends reflect a very large uptick in traffic from tablets and mobile devices, lots of large companies that dont want to just create a mobile / tablet specific site and just optimizing there site for mobile / tablet

Which is better, as the only thing worse than being forced onto a badly coded mobile site when you're on a larger tablet is being constantly asked if you want to download the app. Linkedin I AM looking at you.

It's better if you're using a tablet. Windows 8 was "optimised for tablets" and, well, put it this way; I'm still using Windows 7.

Still, if this is the new website, I suspect we'll see an unexpected sea-level rise from the flood of joy-tears from Aussie and Kiwi Forgeworld-fans who won't be subjected to the Region Tax afterall, heh.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal
