Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions






So having recently been practicing for a local tournament I've gotten very tired of using space marine power units such as Tigurius, Grav Centurions, and Thundernators. Maybe I'm a masochist but I keep on wanting to do well with Raven Guard as Raven Guard and not as Ultras or Scars. That being said I'm painfully aware of how bad Shrike is in 6th and how little he synergizes with the army as a whole or even his own chapter tactics so I'm going to be using Korvydae in this list, predicating the entire thing on my opponent allowing me to run forgeworld.

I'd prefer to keep to the theme of fast and stealthy as much as possible suggestion wise, but other than that I'm pretty open.

So there's my list, a few things were taken just to fill in some points because I ran out of ideas. Preferably I'd get s second Storm for my scouts but I'm a bit low on cash right now. That being said I quite like 6 troops with 35 scoring bodies on the table

I'd take a combi-melta on the tac sergeant instead of the power fist.

As for the rest, depends on how much 'fluff' you want to lose to be more competitive. Assault marines, Vanguard and Scouts arn't really the most potent choices in the space marine codex. It does help that the assault marines are now scoring at least.

Thanks for the wishes and I actually do have a storm talon in my list . I also own a storm raven but I'm not too sure what I'd cut out to get it in

So I had my first game, but I slightly modified my list just to make it more effective and because I'm bad at math.

I played this vs my friends count as ultramarine and I managed a major victory. However things to note was we had 5 objectives, one in each corner and one in the center, as well as a ton of line of site blocking terrain and choke points. These effectively cut any long range fire power in half for effectiveness. Another thing to note was that he failed some very inopportune 2+ saves and I got a lucky failed morale test that repositioned me to charge the unit holding the middle objective. Also the game ended on turn 5...

I ran a 1000 point Raven Guard game against Chaos Space Marine bike army. I won, barely. But here is my 'rough' list.

HQ
Commander Shrike

Troop
Tac Squad 10 marines, plasma and missile + Rhino

Tac Squad 5 marines, flamer, teleport homer + Rhino

Scout Team 5, Sniper Missle Camo

Elite
Base Regular Termies! (They got ported in)

Base Dreadnought

Fast
Assault Squad w/ Jet Packs and Power Maul (hung out with HQ)

I learned that the Dread was a great enemy focus point and died up the Obliterators in CC
The Termies were not very Helpful
Murder Swords are jerks

Assault Squad should morph into Vanguard Vets

Need drop pod for Dreadnought.

Hey there !!

I'm trying to help my best friend to improve / adjust his list of Raven Guard these days so I though I 'd drop my thoughts for evaluation . Note that my friend wants to stay as fluffy as possible (just like you if I remember correctly as I read a lot of threads nowadays ) so here's what I have come up with :

Hq:
Shadow Captain Korvydae 155

Elites:
10x SternGuard Veteran Squad w/ 4x Combi-Melta in Drop Pod 305 (2nd , 3rd or 4th round near enemy Teq or Vehicles)
Ironclad Dreadnought w/ Power Fist with built in Heavy Flamer + Chain Fist with built in Meltagun + Ironclad Assault Launchers in Drop Pod 225 (in a ruin for 3+ cover in first round)

Troops:
10x Assault Squad w/ 2x Flamers + Vet Sergeant with 2x Lighting Claws 230 (Korvydae joins them) (going fast for enemy's troops)
10x Assault Squad w/ 2x Flamers + Vet Sergeant with Lighting Claw and Power Fist + Melta bombs 245 (going fast for enemy's troops)
5x Scout Squad w/ 4x Sniper Rifles + 1x ML + 5x Camo Cloacks 84 (objective grabbers with 3+ cover or 2+ if 1st round or going to ground)
5x Scout Squad w/ 4x Sniper Rifles + 1x ML + 5x Camo Cloacks 84 (objective grabbers with 3+ cover or 2+ if 1st round or going to ground)

Heavy Support:
Devastator Squad w/ 4x ML + Flakk 170 (anti-armor and anti-air from 48")

This list comes at 1498 points .. So what do you think ? Can he be semi-competitive like this? Maybe not against my GK but against other lists?

Personally I'm not a fan of flakk missiles or MLs on scouts so I'd axe them in favor of freeing points up. The sternguard will function the same way without a full 10 man, since there's only 4 combi weapons so we can cut those down too. Finally the second assault marine seargent doesn't need a powerfist since he has melta bombs already; 25 pts is too much for just a bonus attack.

If we take all of that out your friend has 205 points to spend. I'd invest in a stormtalon with skyhammer missiles for AA at 125, and then split the dev squad up into two separate squads with 2 MLs each. This way he can maintain AA fire, while also getting BS 5 on two MLs, having ablative wounds on the devs, and forcing the opponent to kill 2 squads to take care of them completely. With the last 10 points I'd take a locator beacon on the ironclad pod; this will pressure the opponent to kill it before sternguard and potentially assault marines drop down around it on later turns.

This is just a fine tuning of the list, but I'm not sure how competitive it will be since I don't know how strong the lists in his area are
