Second, that's impressive, but where did the crystals come from?
Thanks for the kind words.
We get them from a shop that sells beads and things for making jewelry. I think they were intended to make necklaces or possibly chandeliers. We bought several hundred and now supply these with the kits instead of the old cardboard folded crystals we used to use. MUCH better

You are correct - the ramp is totally too steep for model placement.
It is only also about 1.5" of horizontal movement to get from the bottom to the top so the ramp is more for the asthetics than any practical value - intending to give it a sort of Inca pyramid feel. The original design had steps but these were fiddly to build and so were scrapped
if you play it as a hill, then you can move up any sides just taking difficult terrain but don't take the test if you move up the ramp (obviously you can't end your move on the ramp).
Also, if you want to count it as a landing pad then we say that you have to move up the ramp onto it... but that is just us

Speaking of Landing pads... do you have recommended pieces to serve that purpose? I see both Landing Pads and Defensive Walls making a comeback in the Cyborg line.

Oooo Very nice. I love the hills.
Another suggestion - you might want to edit the very first post of this thread and just include a link to your main page as the very first line. I know you include it with the updates but I tend to instinctively click on the first page to look for a link.

Well, we do a barricade set that looks like this
And if you didn't want to just say that the hill "counts as" a landing pad, you could combine the two like this:

I'm waiting on a payday, but I'll finally stop being a lurker on your website and order something soon.
I'm more tempted to run the hills upside down as the landing pad. I'm guessing that there isn't any decoration on the bottom... One could use the removed pieces of card to make a design there, though.

Ooo.... not only is there no decoration on the bottom... there is no bottom. The piece is hollow underneath - so that you can store the smaller hills inside the larger. I'll add a picture of that today. Wouldn't want anyone else to get the wrong idea

We've had a flight stand in the store for ages but never produced a model to go on top of it. Not for want of trying... but we've never been happy with the designs we've had so far.
This one might be different. The test cut will tell.

I ordered the Orc Settlement bundle and I'm really pleased with the quality of the pieces. The cardstock is strong and firm and takes both white glue and superglue well. I'm looking forward to the Orc bastion and Gatehouse I saw on the FB page.

Thanks to the steady devaluation of the South African Rand, our postal costs have actually come DOWN.
Our DL range now costs $1 to ship worldwide
Our thin C5 range now costs $2 to ship worldwide
Our thicker C5 range and C4 range now cost $4 to ship worldwide.
On top of this, the entire shipping container range is being re-released - starting with the shipping containers themselves. These have had their cutting file totally redone to optimise it and as a result the 3 container set has dropped in price from $18.50 for 3 to $14.95 for 3.
For anyone who is interested in maybe trying these out but is a little unsure, here are two independent reviews, one from the UK and one from New Zealand
http://skirmishoutbreak.blogspot.co.nz/2015/01/terrain-laser-cut-card-containers.html
http://gravengames.co.uk/shipping-containers-review/
The rest of the container range is being redesigned to be cheaper and better. An overview of all the items in the range is available here: http://lasercutcard.co.za/2015/02/shipping-containers-redux/
The will be in the store within the week

Here are some images of the paint test I did on v2 of this building.
I have built up v3 - this one has a whole raft of improvements including
Doors on each of the landings
Elevator access on the roof
Strip lighting around the rear doors
Better detailing on the “glass” panels
Internal bracing on the bottom floor (not shown)

We've re-released two cyborg items as part of a new category of products: "$1 shipping"
Cyborg obelisk (single model)
Cyborg sentinal (single model without the plastic crystal)
These are part of a new category of product called "$1 Shipping", which has been created on the web store here: http://www.lasercutcard.co.za/shop/one-dollar-shipping
The idea is to get people that have doubts about card (or doubts about ordering from a country as scarily as far away as South Africa) to give us a try.
There are 16 items so far that qualify for this shipping rate and we will gradually be moving as many of our existing products into this "$1 shipping" category as we can.
Some of the other products in this category:

I love your stuff but not going to lie to you, the distance thing is the reason I havent ordered before. Not because Im one of these idiots that thinks Im going to get ripped off by "furreners" but because we get hammered with import taxes here and then on top of it Royal Mail double dips you.
So consider a purchase made, this is a great idea and I hope you dont lose money on it.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Pete. I hope you give us a try.
To my knowledge, none of our customers have ever had to pay import duties. There are a couple of reasons for this:
- being card, our products generally ship as flat packs in a normal brown envelope. They look like letters / brochures and not parcels.
- I hand-write the address on all of them so it looks informal and friendly
- CN22 (customs declaration) forms are only required on parcels that are registered as international parcels, and are not required on letters. So there is nothing on the outside of the envelope to give any idea of the value
- larger orders are generally broken down into multiple envelopes and the value of each individual envelope is seldom over the UKPO import tariff level (which is around £20)
Cheers
Neal

This was the first model we made that incorporated materials other than card. The heavy artillery piece is a mix of card, MDF and plastic tubing.
We don’t normally carry these in stock – rather we make them to order. Someone recently ordered several and I took the opportunity to have a few extras cut.
They are all the same model but with a different gun shield (and a few other small customised bits for each faction gun

Just got my artillery piece , no problems or "tax's" with delivery !
This is my first plywood/card laser cut kit and I have to say all parts look great , I'm pleasantly surprised with the small details , teeth on the gears etc etc.
Now all I need to do is find the time to put it together !

There's also their history to lose lose lose. It's funny how often they've sued vs how little they've won.

Shew - you had me worried there for a minute. It seems to be ok now.
e.earnshaw wrote:Be carful you are aware of gw's legal policy of sue sue sue.
GW has already fired a shot across my bows, in a desultory sort of form letter way. Intellectual property though is something that works both ways. Terminators are gleaming silver killer androids. Stargate is full of futuristic Egyptian technology. Just because a certain company makes a product does not mean that similar products are automatically off-limits to everybody else.
For instance, I have made myself plenty of laser-cut rhino models and they look pretty good
If I were to sell these, I would fully expect the wrath of GW legal to come down on me because for each one of these I sold, they lost a potential sale of one of their own kits.
But I do make and sell a 1/50 scale M113:
It so happens that at 1/50 scale, this is fairly similar to the GW product. And no surprise since the rhino was inspired by the M113.
Curiously, what GW complained about was me using pictures of their models next to mine for purposes of scale. So according to them, this is a no-no
So... fine. I'll use Infinity figures for scale.
Also, apart from the cyborg range, we're moving away from making 40k-compatible stuff and trying to make product with a more general utility... so focusing on things that can be used in more than one gaming system.
There are a few more releases in the orc range to come but after that, we are pretty much going to be doing generic scenery.
