Wondering if people think Warhounds of chaos from the fantasy line, are acceptable substitutes?

With some alterations they would be a good base for a "counts as". Maybe some Scything talons added as extra limbs etc.

Would Beaststar be considered "cheese" though?

I mean, you don't think they could work as "counts as" on their own?

Jealous that Horus is Warmaster

I used Chaos Warhounds for my Khymerae and think they look absolutely fine. A few little extra spikes/tentacles and paintjob and your good to go.

Have also seen someones blog on here where they used Dire Wolves from Vampire Counts WHFB range (http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat720004a&prodId=prod1050050)

Put quite a lot of work into them but they looked great.

D&D Displacer Beast?

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

Cool, one more question... Are hellions acceptable counts as beastmasters? I mean they're both on skyboards...

As long as you model them with a CC weapon and a pistol, I don't see why not. I could definitely see someone having an issue if the Beastmaster is modeled with a Hellglaive, since that isn't WYSIWYG, but even that may not be much of an issue.

As a side note, when I built my Beastpack, I went with old Dreamblade figs. Since Khymerae are supposed to represent nightmares made real, I figured a wargame about nightmares doing combat was probably a good place to pick up figs. Plus, many of those old DB minis can be found for a buck or two apiece, which is a dramatic reduction from GW prices. That being said, if you DO go with Dreamblade figs, the one big drawback is how hard it is to get them off their big square bases. Once you get past that though, they make GREAT beast substitutes.

That D&D beast would make an excellent Khymerae stand-in. I've never seen it before.

Might look into getting it if I decide to expand past the two available models that GW has provided us with...

Wait a second, wasn't this the same guy complaining people thought his Dark Eldar were cheese because he used generic shooting netlist A?

Well, I can promise, everyone is going to think your Deldar are cheese when you throw in a beast pack etc. I assume the Barron is your Warlord and you have some nice Eldar jetseer allies?

But but but, people should just be fine with this list I "totally" came up with I my own. It's not cheese your just a bad player.

And notice how daly isn't asking about the other beasts like razorwings or clawed fiends in the pack, just kymera. What a joke haha.

Syhar Sight Hounds make passable Khymera, and they're inexpensive as hell. Add in the Baron and a Jetseer ally and you'll be disappointing your friends in no time!

Speaking of Razorwing flocks, you can get those on the cheap too. Reaper mini's Murder of Crows even LOOKS similar. If you want to skimp on the number of birds, you can just order two of the 'extra crows' bits from the boneyard and wind up paying $1.74 per Razorwing Flock.

I have razorwings and no interest in the clawed fiend. All I Really need are kymerae...

By Beastpacks, do you mean Khymerae? By Warhounds of Chaos, do you mean Flesh Hounds of Khorne?

Beastpacks: roughly 45mm long and ~40 mm high (just eye-balling it) 2 for $19.75

Flesh Hounds of Khorne: Look to be similar in size. 5 for $49.50

I don't have a problem with the substitute, as they're both fugly creatures with 4 legs. I do have a problem with your math skills. They're almost the exact same price. ~$10.00 each.

All ya had to do was google chaos warhounds... You'd find they're from the fantasy line and cost 25 bucks for 10 of them...

I see. These?

They still look similar in size and creepy. I wouldn't have a problem with it.

<---- Isn't familiar with Fantasy.

You could have done your own work and posted links/pictures. Next time, I won't bother.

Depending on what you want from the word 'Count-As', as in if you only want to use them for a few games until you get more appropriate then I would let you, but if you plan on using them indefinitely without even a little bit of conversion work i also might see you as lazy.

I am biased in this though because i put a lot of work into my own Khymerae which i made from Fell Wargs, a little bit of greenstuff and the spare bitz of a Chronos Pain Engine. I put all this work into them because i also looked at Warhounds and found them to small and static and they really simply looked like the cheap way out. I can only recommend the Fell Wargs, they are cheap, look absolutely amazingly sinister without much/any work and are a very good size (similar to Fenrishan Wolves, War Hounds are about 2/3 the size),
