Now there are 9 imperial armies, 8 other. Do we really need more imperials?

Also, I hope this latest storm trooper addition is complete failure. Honestly I can't see how a 5 man IG squad can sell for $35. Are they asking us to buy from other companies?

I you don't like it don't buy it. It's not like it's even a full sized codex it's more along the lines of the Knights codex.

But it does sell for the prize of a full-sized codex.

It's not like this is the first time we've had so many Imperial Factions. At the start of 2nd (back when we only had 1 Marine book) there were 2 main Imperial Factions (Guard and Marines) and the Imperial Agents (who made up 6 more factions who only allied to Guard and Marines).

At least if they keep this up we might eventually see a Mechanicus mini-dex.

As for cost, the new kits are filled with a lot more "stuff" than they used to be and are more detailed. All that extra tooling cost has to go somewhere.

You mean that eighteen-month gap between Codex Space Wolves and Codex Ultmarines?

Second edition had more than one Marine book, its just that the differences between them were tiny compared to the current books.

No, I mean the launch of 2nd when the Marines were in the one of the core books (along with every other army). You know, the very brief gap before codexes started coming out.

So yeah, 2nd brought even more on top of that, but at the very start it was a lot smaller, and the Imperium was still most of it.

So 1st edition then?

No, that's Rogue Trader. When 2nd Started they had to basically reset all the factions because they'd changed a lot about how the game worked, so the starter box had a consolidated rulebook for all the armies (and that same rulebook may have been available outside of that too).

$35? Guess that is in US prices. Try $42 Cnd. Ouch.

I'm not saying the books not overpriced, but it's not like it's taking up another armies release spot.

At least it's not another space marine supplement.

I have no interest in buying the Tempestus book, but that doesn't make me want it to be bad so others can't enjoy it.

Stormtroopers are neat; I'm curious to see how well they do on the table.

If 9 out of 17 Warhammer 40K players play Imperium, than 9 out of 17 Codexes should be Imperial.

The diversity is in the players, not the books.

If 9 out of 17 Warhammer 40K players play Imperium, and 8 out of 17 Xenos, but there is only 1 Imperial Codex vs. 8 Xenos, the game would not be any more diverse. Quite the opposite, actually.

This is a very good point.

I, like many people I assume, get tired of playing power armour, but I'd much rather have a game against Space Wolves, then Grey Knights, then Blood Angles, than have three games against the same Marine dex.

I'm just sick of them releasing a few new miniatures as an entire codex. Save it for the full IG codex or put it in White Dwarf.

I get they want to make some money but my teats are milked dry.

There have been guard players pining to play a stormtrooper army for a decade now. This is much more of a case of "while we're redoing guard, let's have it release concurrently with a few other books" than a case of "we are EVIL INCARNATE! How can we possibly make xenos players on the internet even angrier than they already are?"

That's not that out of line. Yeah, it did get a more expensive than the 5-man metal kasrkin boxes, but they switched over from single-pose metal minis with no bitz that were a unit in another codex to a multi-part plastic kit with tons of bitz that form the core of their own army.

So, you know, they SHOULD be more expensive.

£21 British sterling for a command squad
Which is 3p of 5cents less than the US and £1.83 cheaper than the Canada price

It's in this weeks' WD as an Elite choice for Guard. And they might be in the next IG codex too.

Yeah after reading the rules in the WD, I'm not a fan due to they have taken out the hot-shot lasgun meaning that you have to buy it as an upgrade and points for squad also did not change again..

Then they've failed. I've been waiting two years for an Ork codex to get into this and I'm utterly infuriated.

Read it again.

The hot-shot lasgun that you have to buy is a special weapon called the "Volley Hot-Shot Lasgun".

Yeah I can't believe people get so angry at GW for releasing a codex that you don't have to buy even if you want to play storm troopers in a regular IG army. They are still going to be in the IG codex they just got a separate army list as well that allows all the people who always wanted to field an all SS army to do so.

Also how exactly does having more codex options devalue your own codex? GW went from updating the xenos dexs once every ~7 years to updating almost all of them in a single edition and people are mad that they released more content to boot?

The new kit is brilliant. The increased price is well deserved considering that you get a better sculpt, huge numbers of options, and can pose the models. You can always sell the extra parts on ebay or swap shop to recoup the extra cost.

I'm not 100% certain this is going to be true, though.

Note how on the GW website they no longer sell stormtroopers for imperial guard? It is entirely possible that guard won't have stormtroopers anymore, but instead you'll have to ally them in from tempestus.

But the WD puts Scions into the Guard codex. Let's be honest we don't know -for sure- where GW is taking this just yet as this is the first mini-dex to come out before the codex.

Oh yeah, I'm sure it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that the "Stormtroopers" in that section were all metal kits. Or that they might not have put them into the section because y'know, they are going to be renaming and reorganizing the section?
