The markerlight entry states that a unit from Codex: Tau can expend markerlight tokens to use one or more of the listed abilities. pinpoint states that it effects all models in the unit, so does this mean that a battle brother independent character can get the effects of markers if he is in the tau squad?

Yes, absolutely. He's a member of the unit for all rules purposes.

And the opposite is true if a Tau IC joins a Battle Brother squad, he does not get to enjoy the marklights while part of that squad.

But the tau independent character is a unit from codex tau, so he can still use markerlights if he is in say a space marine squad. And they would get the effect because they are models in the unit per the pinpoint rule

Only units from codex:tau can spend markerlights though. So if a tau ic is in a SM unit then its not a unit from codex:tau and won't get that far.

So you are saying that if a character joins and allied squad, that he ceases to be a unit from his original codex? Automatically Appended Next Post: I'm not saying the tact squad is using the markerlights, I am saying my tau commander is using them, and the tact squad is just getting the benefits of pinpoint or ignores cover, because they specifically state all models.

Well considering an IC joining a squad stops being a unit at all...

Markerlights are used by a unit, not a model. So a Space Marine unit cannot use a Markerlight no matter how many Tau models are in the unit.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.
