Yes, actually. A couple of months ago. He said Digital Editions has nothing to do with the FAQs and he had no information on when/if new FAQs would be coming out. He gave me an email address where I might get some answers, and I wrote it down somewhere, but have misplaced it.

It should be gamefaqs@gwplc.com as that is the email address listed on GW's site for where to send rules inquiries.

I know about that one, but that wasn't it. From his phrasing, I got the distinct feeling that the email address he gave me was actually read by a real person.

Huh. Well if you find it again I'd love to get a copy. I've got a proposed errata for Allies I'd love to get in front of someone's eyes.

GW? Play testing? Hah!

I seriously doubt if they actually play test stuff, let alone in a competetive way.

GW has laid out their playtesting as follows: they play some games between the devs, and then after they tweak things they have some other folks play some games (I assume that these games are played by the WD team since those guys do the battle reports and you basically get two birds with one stone that way) and they tweak things if needed. This is per their statements from the "Enter the Citadel" event last year.

So no, they don't do mass play testing nor do they have a large enough or diverse enough sample size to properly catch all the problems. It's one of the things I think could seriously be improved upon.

I also think it's that they don't play the game the same way as most people, so a lot of broken combos get glossed over because they'd never in a million years think of doing it to know that some players might try. And, knowing GW, they probably think that players who would do that are so wretched that they aren't worth considering in the first place.

That's basically my thought in a nutshell. I mean I was looking at the battle report from when DA came out and it's two staff member's collections basically being fielded against each other and it's just FULL of plasma, something you'd never see in the main community.

And I do recall claims that one dev shown a tournament list (one of the really cheesy kinds) was a bit put off by it. I don't really know how much that impacted the way they design things though. I have a strong feeling that they think that most people play by just taking what looks cool over what is the most points efficient.

Doesn't this technically break the game? I mean, some core mechanics were significantly altered by those FAQs, like look out sir.

Iv put a thing up in YMDC to see what the response is but its gonna be laughable... like if according to my written codex i take a Hellbrute its 105 pts, (errata missing) but if i take it in a formation its 100 pts. this is just the begining as rules junkies will go wild

there is bigger rules concerns anyway

all those LOS rules etc etc are in the Digital Rule Book as well.... so we now have 2 different prints of the exaxct same rulebook

Apparently you can still access the FAQs via google. So if you need an FAQ, probably best to find and print it off now, in case they're more properly removed.

Yeah, but couldn't they have directed 1 guy to write the FAQs? I mean, they are supposed to be a large company, right? They have to have more than 6 guys writing.

The main dev team has never been really big. Most of the company's employees are tied up in manufacturing or sales more than anything else.

The design studio has 125 staff, though we don't know how that is split among artists, model makers, writers and support staff. How many different people are named as authors of codexes in 6th edition?

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I don't think that they'd be suddenly rejected. GW still wrote them, and most of the playerbase will have been using them previously. Really, somebody who suddenly tries to stop or discourage you from using an FAQ just because they're gone off the GW site is likely a bit of a TFG.

True but I would not want to play with those people - hopefully any TO would state that all previous FAQs would remains as part of the game - although at some point its likely there will be a need for more and more "unofficial" ones - in the absence of official ones................

Devils advocate as i agree, but just remember, the rules tell you to you invalid FAQ as they are no longer listed. hopefully GW fingers out and gets them up again, but with the massive lack of ANY done over the last year, dont hold your breath lest ye become a smurf.
also when googling the CSM FAQ you get 2 links they are:
http://www.games-workshop.com/error/error.jsp
http://www.games-workshop.com/en-AU/gws/content/article.jsp?categoryId=1000018&aId=3400019&pIndex=1&start=2&_requestid=254337
neither does anything as they have removed them.. very very tedious..

True, if the lack of FAQs is a prolonged thing then it might spur some sort of community response, but then there's the issue of the community having to agree on what a given FAQ should do. Some points would probably be fairly straightforward corrections, but I imagine that there'd be some issues that would be very divisive

Yeah, suppose the best thing we can do is email them en masse asking about FAQs and hope it spurs a response.

Since the FAQs are often left up for a while after a new codex comes out, this doesn't look good.
Even 40k 7th ed should only invalidate 1 FAQ, not all of them.

This is ridiculous.

I talked to Support at WHW, and they said
"yeah they're gone, but they MIGHT be back at some point, just we haven't been told when that may be"
The lady was very apologetic, and their phones are jam packed.

As is, I believe I have all the latest FAQs in my archive, and will be putting them up to download later today.

Well while I was at it I sent an email to an acquaintance of mine in the dev studeo about the loss of the FAQs. I got a one-word reply almost immediately: "Thanks." So I'm guessing they didn't know about that.

Don't know if it'll help fix things, but if anyone know how important those changes are, it'd be the people who penned them.

It's a concern especially for typos such as the English edition of CSM overpricing the Helbrute.

Unless you pack a digital codex and the judges are not up and up on that error, the cost cannot be fathomed outside an official GW FAQ that is now not available.
