The 4 valkyrie formation is pretty fun looking. Shame I can't ally these in to my Chaos armies...

Ordered the Codex and plan on running these guys as an "elite formation" of my Elysian Drop troops, or will be selling my Elysian Infantry and running them as Harakoni Warhawks, excited for when the book gets in Friday!

19th Krieg Siege Army 7500pts.

Valk, according to the pts values from the White Dwarf, Grenadiers aren't cheaper anymore, I think.

On the other hand, the ST lost a bunch of things, so the pts values might be more matched, see deep strike vs no morale test vs shooting and move through cover vs WS4/Not affected by Fear.
True, they won't cheaper anymore once the new book comes out, but I'll take immune to shooting morale tests over Deep Strike and Move Through Cover, nothing kills (relatively) low model count T3 armies like crappy Ld (oh look I tossed a heavy bolter or two at each unit? Oh look two of them broke, cute...)

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

allrighty, so through the gods of chance or fate or G Dubs, I recieved my pre-order of the Militarum Tempestus codex in the mail yesterday.

after finishing a general read through, I find myself seriously looking forward to fielding an army entirely of these guys. As I'm usually a nids player, and less of a tournament player, more of apickup game with friends player. I can't say for sure how competitive these guys are.

However the Scion Command Squad help solve alot of the morale issues, with a radius of leadership bubble that reminds me somewhat of my old friend, synapse. (said i'm a nid player.)

Also, a commisar, (not lord) as an IC HQ is rather interesting. The changes to summary execution are bit more balanced than last edition aswell IMHO.

The warlord traits are all excellent, not a single one I can't see getting common use, and makes me want to roll on their personal table for once.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also, forgot to mention it, but the new orders are also all excellent, (although only the command squad can give any orders sadly) however I can officially deny the commonly help beliefe that First Line fire! Second Line Fire! exists for them... it doesn't.

Sure, I'm at work right now. However once I get back home and have my book in my hands again, I'll write an in-depth break-down of it.

As would I. Although you only having one post makes me think you are lying. I apologise if you are not though.

Something thats always bothered me... The "finest human soldiers" in the imperium are WS3 and Ld7? I mean whats up with that? All the fluff I've read about kasrkin and storm troopers and such indicated that these guys would be able to kill a man before he even knew what had happened and that their coolness under fire creeps out inquisitors but their stats reflect this poorly.

Why are you so negative? Why do you hate the hobby?

Just kidding , I agree completely and I was at a loss that they're pretty bad and they've gone down in attacks since their last iteration, which just has me scratching my head.

Do you play 30k? It'd be a lot cooler if you did.

If everything was like the fluff you would have a single Space Marine taking on an entire army of Orks and tabling half it it by himself. The fluff is what it is, fluff, but when it comes to the rules of the game they are going to do what they have to do to make the game as balanced as possible regardless of fluff.

True, WS4 is my pipe dream (I have a weakness for Badass Normals) but leadership 8 really isn't too much to ask for is it? Also give them back their CCWs, with that they ripped GEQs apart in melee.

In saying that, I'm really stoked that I can finally run a storm trooper army.

Space marines aren't human anymore. They're among the finest soldiers of the imperium but, like ogryn or ratlings aren't strictly human.

I love Stormtroopers and never showed up with my old Elysians without at least two squads. That said, I am not a fan of the new mini's and am happy they released new ones so I can hopefully find cheap metal ones on ebay as people replace thiers. Not liking the treaded MRAP. I didnt look to see what other transport options they had or if they lost deep strike.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

Storm troopers on the cheap:

What you will need:
-Plastic Cadians
-Space Marine Bolter Scopes
-Alternatively, the scope-like things from cadian HWTs
- Vox casters
-Cool heads from the command squad, chimera and valkyrie kits
-pouches, greandes, knives, any tacti-cool bits you've got in your bits box, any marine or guard player should have plenty of these

Trim the voxcaster down to where it looks like a boxy backpack with a small antenna on it. Assemble the guardsmen with the cool head, give them scopes or sites or anyhitng else you want for your guns. Bling them up with pouches.

You now have elite looking guardsmen suitable for grenadiers/stormies/scions

You can just use normal guardsmen. Elite doesnt have to look different. Its entirely up to your view on the your guard really. So thats the cheapest option.

True, but when running upwards of 100 plastic cadians its nice to mark out the special ones for the ease of myself and my opponent.

Well, the problem is that stormtroopers shouldn't look "elite", they should look like they have the extra wargear that they have. Regular cadians don't look like they have Sv4+, and regular cadians don't look like they're carrying hot-shot lasguns.

What's being described would work well for veterans, where they look like slightly more accurate guardsmen (which they are). Stormtroopers, though, should look somewhat different because they ARE actually somewhat different.

Unless someone is using them as elite guard, or drop guard etc. Or even human pirates and so on. It depends what the person is going for in my opinion.

Well, I agree on the point that if you're going to use minis as elites other than one-time proxying to see if they work, you at least should put at least some minimal effort into making them look at least a bit more like what they're supposed to be on the table, otherwise it'd just look half-assed.

Especially given the fact that all those modifications listed by Emil are actually great ideas to make regular, bland Cadians much, much cooler. Best thing would be to get the Forge World's "CADIAN INFANTRY SQUAD WITH RESPIRATORS UPGRADE PACK" for Kasrkin helmets, tactical gear and accessories. Pricey, sure, but the effect would be great. Toss in the SM or non-GW scopes and you will end up with Kasrkin-looking, multi-part plastic/resin Cadians.
