Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG

I don't think I ever received pins for camps in Boy Scouts. There were merit badges, patches, and stuff like that which you received for achieving things, but I can't think of anything I ever got simply for showing up somewhere. I know some of the larger camps had camp stores where you could go buy trinkets like something with the camp name on it or whatever, but that's about all I can think of.

I'm not sure if everyone would consider those a part of the "trophy" thing, but I do. They're not awards in any official stance, but there's still the psychological aspect of receiving something just for showing up even though you didn't achieve anything.

My troop put pins of every camp they visited on the collar. And in the same vein of the latter statement then Swag Bags or stuff like that are considered bad. I dont see things that you get for "Showing up" as bad, most of the time the are momentos. Its things like trophies and "Everyone is a winner" and participation rewards are what I dont like in games.

They're not "bad", they just lack any real meaning. Maybe I'm lacking some sense of sentimentalism. It may just be me.

The difference between stuff like that and swag bags is intent. The latter is organized by the event, and is motivated by advertising. Those companies are giving you stuff for free, yes, but they're doing it with the intent of making you aware of their products. I can understand that. It would be different if, for example at Adepticon, they gave you a shiny metal "Team Tounament" or whatever widget to tack onto yourself in addition to the other stuff in the bag.

There was a time - not too long ago - when bullying was defined as slamming someone up against a locker and stealing their lunch money. There was a time when kids got called names and got picked on, and they brushed it off and worked through it (ask me how I know this).

How many suffered in quiet because they were told to "brush it off"?

My generation is f'ed up the bum in a variety of ways. We're going to have to work until we're 75 to support the previous generation's pensions as well as our own, we're faced with environmental degradation and an unsustainable economic model, and yet WE'RE the ones being whiny and entitled?

Wait 15 or 20 years until the baby boomers are all retired and see who's really entitled. The potential outrage if it turns out elderly people won't be as well-off as they thought they'd be is going to be Biblical in proportions, and it's all going to be our fault for being too lazy.

I for one hate the idea of how the older generations treated kids and how schools did. If you didnt conform, you where left behind. My mom said, if I was raised in her generation, I would not have gotten the attention needed to succeed in school. Im going to say it. I support the "Special Snowflake-itis" you know why? Because some kids need attention to succeed in school, because it is the only way for them to learn. And im tired of the "Everyone gets a trophy" Myth. It is a very Isolated phenomenon(How did I get that right on the first spelling, Huh) seen mostly in little leagues and sports outside of schools.

As one who had problems with conforming and still does, it is honestly preparing you for entering society and most of the conforming is actually done by your peers not the teachers. Perhaps you should think about what being a special snowflake actually means then you can stop taking articles about the younger generation so personally( please note you are NOT the generation being talked about here). Stop melting under the light of day.

I think that article was great and I think she is mum of the year. I once slammed a friends head into a wall in year 3 , I was still friends with him 10 years later. I'd hate to think what actions would have been taken from that action in an American school. I actually think not letting boys run around and be rowdy is wrong, really wrong, as I remember those active moments as the best part of my childhood.

You've not been bullied then I take it? Because it certainly builds A type of character...

Read what I quoted, then read my reply and read what you posted. I'm not sure where bullying comes into this at all.

Addressing your question: I suppose I could have been bullied (i would term it more harassed) for one year in high school it didn't leave a lasting mark on me.
