So i am really broke, and need a few more men in my chaos military of chaotic chaos...so, i also happen to have some useless (to me) dark angels. Is it bad if i just slap on some crazy paint and call it a CSM? I mean, all the correct equipment is represented, and it is the correct size. Is it really hard to believe that they are fresh converts to the throes of chaos? Am i a bad person?

They're still models equipped with power armor and boltguns, so it's perfectly fair. You don't even have to go crazy with the painting - half the Dark Angels turned traitor during the Horus Heresy, so you could just paint them in their pre-Heresy color scheme and be pretty alright. as long as it is legal i am okay. Though five perfectly normal space marines hiding in my spike marines ell Look a bit odd. I just didn't want to convert them because soon i will have lots o money for starting my homebrew chapter and my first squad will already be ready and painted and even combat tested

If it has power armor, a dick and a boltgun it's a space marine. Though, gameplay wise, Sisters of Battle models could be used too.

Sure, I don't see any problem whatsoever! It'll be fairly obvious that they're Chaos Marines, even though they don't have super spikey wargear. Like you said, just say that they're fresh converts that don't have mutated armour yet. Plus, look at the Iron Warriors, they're Chaos Marines without all the mutation usually seen on their kind, it's not necessary for traitors to be all warped.

Just scrape off/up the Imperial stuff on the DA and make them look like recently fallen marines.

I done with mine DA the think what optimusprime14 says. Removed the loyalists stuff , add some spike bitz, then paint them in mine army colour. Little work and now i have +9 new traitorous renegades.

No! Absolutely Unacceptable! I REFUSE TO PLAY AGAINST YOU BECAUSE YOU HAVE 5 MODELS THAT ONLY SORT OF FIT YOUR ARMY RATHER THAN COMPLETELY!
If this happens, you wouldn't enjoy playing them anyway. You'll be fine 99.9% of the time, and the rest don't matter.

because in the mean time, my chaos army is not even 2k points. I was just wondering the legality, and acceptability of using DA models as CSM. Automatically Appended Next Post: Will1541 wrote:No! oh but i would. If only for the sheer pleasure of crushing their forces underfoot. I am shire the chaos gods would grant me good rolling if pitted against such a person as described above..

That is the treatment all the other fallen angels have gotten as far as defiling the images of the false corps emperor. (only one is a beaky, but he is second in command of the CSM unit, and loves staving things with his trench dagger). But hear last five...I dunno...I just liked them as is, so I gave em some nifty red paint with gold trimmings, And will start a vanilla space marine chapter using this scheme...until hen, they run with the chaos crowd.
Also, Thanks for all the feedback!

I do the same in reverse...several of my Salamanders are Chaos Marines with the icons filed off. Wouldn't call it proxying.
