At the end of the day, I think I agree on plasma too, because it pairs better with the bolters but mostly because there are better alternatives for cheap, fast, suicide melta like dual MM Speeders.

On another point, is there value in the Razorback for a backfield fire support unit?

Point for point, they're rather poor platforms comparatively. Use them if you're tight on force org and feel uncomfortable in one zone of your firepower. As a general rule, I will only put TL LC on them. AV11 dies very quickly within 24''.

They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines, and they shall know no fear.

I agree that TLLC is the only option that makes sense. Getting close is a death sentence .

Another note guys! After browsing lists and ideas of armies, holy crap Dreadnoughts are viable. Iron hands Ironclads.

Guess I'm probably going to be doing a DP army.

So, new questions!

1. Is the plasma/combiplasma set up still good for my Tact Squads?
2. Keeping Ironclads bare bones, or throwing ironclad assault launchers on them?
3. Deathwind launchers in the DP's? Yay/Nay?
4. Stormtalons. Should I still be taking them?

1. They can be depending on your meta
2. If you can afford it, do it
3. They.cant fire the turn they arrive...keep that in mind
4. Personally I do but I know not everybody does

1. It's a pretty decent all round choice so unless you have a specific role for your tac squad it's a viable option.

2. As the post above. Though as I put all of the things on my Ironclad (including the HK missiles) because it looked funky, I'm probably not the person to ask...

3. The Meta would suggest that the DW launcher is suboptimal though I think it has it's good points-
If the pod's dropped on/near an objective then a s5 large blast could be quite a disincentive for squishier troops and unless there's nothing better to shoot most folk ignore drop pods. Don't forget you can drop it empty too!

4. I like them. Their swivelling Assault Cannons combined with a flyer move is pretty handy for swooping past vehicles (and flyers) to hit their bum armour and they can be tailored to be stronger against anything really.

Going further back, the razorback really depends on your armour saturation. If you've got Vindis and Landraiders aplenty then a little sniping Razorback could well be ignored and do some decent damage.

Don't know if it's been mentioned yet but...

A Captain or a Chapter Master on a bike with the Primarchs Wrath can be deadly. The CM especially so because of the Orbital, though I have yet to really land one to great effect! Damnable full 2d6 scatter! The bike is really just there to give you relentless and the extra durability, but you can use this as an excuse to run more bikes.

The nice thing about bikes as troops is that you still have room to run 4 Tac squads, as I think 2 units of bikes is plenty.

Bikes aside though...

The Rhino Razorback thing is kind of moot. If running MSU, then spend the extra points on a RB but don't waste points on upgrades for it. If running full squads then use a Rhino and pop smoke. As for Tac Squads... I like to mix em up, though the ML is turning out to be a solid favourite.

Also, you may want to run Bikes through the Troops slot so you can take Typhoon Landspeeders for your FA. Like the ML, try a two shot one...

@darkcloak - Not going to be running bikes, sorry.

@Aben Zin - I agree with the points on the death wind launcher.

Alright, I guess I need to clarify - Would Stormtalons work in a DP list? Or should I be more concerned with spamming DP's in early point levels? (Starting out with 1000pts)

At 1000 pts better to go all pods, at 1500 and up start considering the stormtalons

1000pts I'd shoot for 5 pods. 1500, 5-7 pods + fliers, 2000 7-9 pods + fliers.

Here's what I got so far for the list:

HQ:
MOTF... 90

TROOPS:
Tact Squad (9 strong) w/ Combi Plasma, Plasma Gun, Drop pod... 186

Tact Squad (9 strong) w/ Combi Plasma, Plasma Gun, Drop pod... 186

ELITES:
Stern guard (5 Strong) w/ 2 Combi Flamers, Drop Pod... 175

Ironclad Dreadnought w/ Ironclad Assault Launchers, Drop Pod... 180

Ironclad Dreadnought w/ Ironclad Assault Launchers, Drop Pod... 180

TOTAL: 997

Notes:
Had to remove one more marine to squeeze in that final dreadnought. Still trying to move the list around, cause this is very WIP right now.

Another quick note! Even though I am doing Iron Hands, currently I am doing them out of C:SM, as I don't own the Iron Hands Expansion Clan Raukaan. So, until then C:SM has to do!

Does anyone still take heavy weapon in their Tactical squad? Just feels like a waste of everyone else's bolters

I take them exclusively when running a gunline, and even then only in casual games.

They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines, and they shall know no fear.

Multimeltas for sallies, and only if I have points to spend. I don't build around them anymore
