Hey, I am slowly building my Chaos warband, but I can't decide on one single chapter to play and paint, so I am wondering if it would be fluffable to combine my two favourites.

My reasoning for why it could work is: Alpha Legion is mysterious and nobody really knows where their loyalties stand. Personally I don't know if they're still loyal to the Emperor after 10 000 years, but I don't buy them having converted entirely to Chaos. If I remember right from when I read Legion, the Alpha Legion wants the IoM to collapse to prevent Chaos from taking over (right?), but letting humanity disappear to save the rest of the galaxy doesn't seem ideal either. So enter Malal/Malice, opposed to the other ruinous powers. Despite being Chaos, he is a counter-force, so would it be possible for Alpha Legionnaires to look to Malial in an attempt to confuse and upset the other Chaos gods, either to weaken or destroy them, or just to set them back to buy more time while a better solution is found.

Of course the fluff I would make for my army would be vague, but I'm pretty certain on the following:
-They are opposed to both the Imperium and the four main Chaos gods
-They are (currently) drained of resources and depend largely on looted materials
-Depend on cultists/infiltrators, as well as renegade guardsmen. The two groups occasionally mix, with cultists joining the ranks of guardsmen and vice versa
-Most Marines are Sons of Malice, Alpha Legionnaires typically being more in the background as characters or cultists (is it a cooperation or is the AL exploiting the SoM?)
-Not being bound by Imperial doctrine, research and science is not frowned upon. Mutations and the appearance of Spawn are therefore written off as biological experiments rather than warp influence.

So could anyone with a better knowledge of fluff than me verify if this would be too far-fetched or if it could work? And if it could work, got any ideas for things I could include or expand upon? Any comments and feedback is appreciated, thanks

Nobody knows what the Alpha legion is doing, not Abaddon, not the High lords of Terra, not the Eldar, I don't think even the gods or the Alpha Legion itself knows what it's up to or it's motivations. Hell I don't think even the authors know what exactly the Alpha Legion is trying to do.

So any answer is as good as the other.

Well the sons of malice are dedicated to a chaos god: malice/malal. Malice does not hate the other ruinous powers, It hates EVERYTHING. It hates The other chaos gods, It hates It's followErs, It hates Itself.
It is the god of suicide, self-loathing, self-destruction (he probably invented the self-destruct button) so I can't see sons of malice working with anyone.

Seen as the Sons of Malice hunt other Chaos warbands and legions, you might have some trouble explaining it.

Have it be comprised of Alpha Legionaires that became corrupted by or fell into the thrall of Malice, maybe? Not every Alpha Legionaire or Alpha Legion warband has to be the same (......................probably).

It is the god of suicide, self-loathing, mutually assured destruction without the deterrence - (Tzeentch then came up with Nash's Equilibrium to counter it) (he probably invented the self-destruct button) so I can't see sons of malice working with anyone.

Fix'd

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

Alpha legion loves to bend other forces to their will, so perhaps have an inner circle of Alpha Legionaries leading around a band of Sons of Malice.

The Alpha Legion does not cooperate...they USE others.

Not quite the same thing.

The Alpha Legion can and will work with whoever they want to so long as it helps to further their goals and does not encroach on their own motivations. The Legion works in mysterious ways.
