I am thinking of using one ion a tournament that is coming up instead of using a skyshield.

What is better the skyshield or the void generator? what model could i use as a void shield?

Up-turned yoghurt pot, x4 BIC Biros, pencil sharpener and a Blue Peter attitude will about do it.

On a more serious note, there are some fantastic proxy parts on offer from companies such as Kromlech, SpellCow, Scibor etc etc.. You can also do some fantastic work using plasticard.

As to what is better - it really depends on your army list. Will your army be a static gun-emplacement, a deep striking army or a mobile force?

Thousand Sons: 3850pts / Space Marines Deathwatch 5000pts / Dark Eldar Webway Corsairs 2000pts / Scrapheap Challenged Orks 1500pts / Black Death 1500pts

Saga: (Vikings, Normans, Anglo Danes, Irish, Scots, Late Romans, Huns and Anglo Saxons), Lion Rampant, Ronin: (Bushi x2, Sohei), Frostgrave: (Enchanter, Thaumaturge, Illusionist)

Well I am looking to create a gunline using henchemen, so cheap plasma cannons and joakeros.

the tournament i am entering states no stronghold assault or escalation expansions can be used. Does this mean the void shield cannot be used?

Pretty much. It's a unit that you select from Stronghold Assault, but since the Skyshield is in the BRB it's still good to use.

Black Bases and Grey Plastic Forever:My quaint little hobby blog.

40k- The Kumunga Swarm (more)
Count Mortimer’s Private Security Force/Excavation Team (building)
Kabal of the Grieving Widow (less)

Plus other games- miniature and cardboard both.

Aye the Void shield is only in Stronghold Assault, while as Sinful Hero pointed out, the Skyshield is in the BRB.

Additionally, while the Voidshield AV12 is nice, a single penetration (without upgrades to the layers) will cause it to fall and then it's about as useful as a soggy poppadom. It really depends on if your enemy has high Strength/low AP weaponry to fling at you.

Nah, they should totally use some Sonic Screw Drivers instead of Biros. Then it could even have lights and sound when it's active!
