Hi all,
I decided to try and get back into 40k after being out for out of it for about 7 years as I never had a chance to put together my DKOK army and its just collecting dust mostly.
I bought the IA 12 book and it re sparked my interest in 40k and after seeing the top 16 lists of adepticon and throwing up, I decided I wanted to try and make a competitive and fluffy DKOK Infantry Assault Brigade, Do you guys think this list can be used competitively at all? Nothing would satisfy me more then to stuff about a 100 troops down my opponents throat as he tried to find room to move all his flyers and riptides. I'm looking to use all 6 of my troop slots, I want to try not to have to use inquisitors or allies. so far I came up with these as my troop choices.

here's what Ive done so far with the first squad of Grenadiers, I cut the grenade launcher and flamer from both of the special weapon guys arms and replaced them with the plasma gun from the DKOK weapon set. it took some green stuff but I think they came out alright, the sgt was a bit more difficult given he comes with a pistol and sword, I ended up just having to use the arms from the Grenadier Heavy stubber model pack, an expensive solution, but I've yet to find a better one.



I was frustrated beyond belief by the wires for the hot-shot lasguns, none of them lined up at all, I tried the hot water trick with trying to bend them into shape but didn't seem to work which I was really surprised, any suggestions? I'm not very skilled with green stuff and they seem so fragile I don't want to force bend them to fit.

Any one have any good modeling suggestion for making barb wire poles? I tried using paper clips but they were kind of too bendy and all my poles came out crocked.



and finally what do you guys think of modeling my commander on a base like this? I was debating if it made him stand out to much and look kind of corny, but felt he needed something to make him stand out as the model is kind of not very exciting lol



I believe I found a good painting scheme I can use to paint tons of models quickly and easily and I will post some of the test models I painted tonight when I get home.

It's looking good, but the pictures are a bit blurry so it's hard to see the details.
A way to make details more visible in pictures is to apply a thin layer of dark wash on the models.

This is the paint scheme Im going for, it basically just washes over a white primer, on a related note can anyone recommend a good white model primer, i used the GW skull white primer and it always comes out clumpy and messes up the detail of the model, feel free to give feed back

Use hotter water. Some people suggest using warm water out of the sink, I have no idea how this accomplishes anything besides washing the parts. Instead you want to use boiling water, which will certainly heat them enough to bend the wires. You'll have to bend them back into shape quickly since the thin parts cool off fast, but that should work just fine.

If that doesn't work just get some metal wire and make your own replacements. It's just a simple wire with no details, so it shouldn't take any real effort.

I haven't assembled my Grenadiers as of yet, can you maybe glue the gun arms in place, just leaving the where the wires attach unglued, then warming up the entire model with near-boiling water and then quickly bend and glue the wire in place while it's still warm?

Mine had broken cables, so I used comparably thin plasticard tube instead, with a few rectangle nubs on it to add some detail.

That is some heinous warping on the barrel/bar of that lascannon.

I'd suggest using thinner and softer wire. The thickness of the paperclips you've used looks out of scale and forces larger radius curves than you want. Softer wire will also make it easier to pinch and torque the upright sections straight.

Whenever I'm making things from wire, if a paperclip might work, I use 16g galvanized mild steel wire, instead (frequently sold in bulk as "bailing" or "electric fence" wire, but you can find smaller coils at hardware/home improvement stores). Much easier to work with (comes about 1/2 or 3/4 hard, by my estimate), and about the same diameter as a standard paperclip. I also keep 18g, 22g, and 26g around for finer tasks (the last two are easier to find at craft stores, generally sold 1/2 hard or dead soft, as floral wire).

If I were to make this, I'd use 26g to make the barbed wire and 16g or 18g for the poles.

I had a nightmare with those hellgun cables best way is to assemble the guns on the body then glue to the back pack when dry, use some needle nose pilers a bit of.glue on the under part of gun.and twist in.to place and hold until set, worked on all but one of mine

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'm gonna look into just out right boiling the cables and seeing if they will bend.

You don't need to actually boil them, especially for parts that are so thin. Just bring some water to a simmer or gentle boil, pour it in to a cup, throw the model in, come back in a minute or so, carefully fish the model out of the water, those wires will be like wet noodles.
