I bought the Crimson Slaughter supplement book for my Chaos Marines not too long ago..... I was disappointed in it. I was really hoping for more than just one page of rules, one page of artifacts, then missions. So yeah, I was pretty upset spending $50 on that.
Not too long ago, a buddy of mine offered to sell me the Black Legion supplement book. I'm hesitant to buy it if it's anything like the Crimson Slaughter book.
So my question for all of you is what all does the Black Legion book have to offer? And is it worth buying?
Thanks in advance

Black Legion supplement is pretty much the same. One-two pages of rules/artefacts, a gallery of stuff you've already seen and some scenarios.
If anything the Black Legion book is also far weaker than the Crimson Slaughter variant - Crimson Slaughter gives you options whereas BL actually TAXES you for using their rules...

Also the Crimson Slaughter gets much better relics.

I just bought the Crim. Sltr book. I like it. But i knew it wasn't going to have a lot of rules. It seems like it is much more solid than CSM or Blck Lgn.
I was going to run Red Corsairs…it might be Crmsn Sltr now.

I think I won't be buying the BL book then. I don't want to spend another $50 on just two pages of rules again.
Thank you for the info on the book, you guys. Much appreciated.

Yeah, unless you really want an overpriced DP with EW not named Belakor the BL book is pretty hollow.

Black Legion supplement is one of those books you borrow from a friend to read the fluff, then promptly return.
Crimson's Laughter is similarly mostly fluff, but the access to Divination alone makes the book worth fielding.

All the Supplements are like this, they're crap in general. However, at least the Crimson Slaughter book looks like it has half-decent rules which actually benefit armies looking to have more of an assault punch and offers Divination access. More supplements need to be like the Crimson Slaughter book, although more rules/deviations would be appreciated.

The Black Legion has that 375 point FMC. Forgive me for my lack of knowledge about his name/rules, but he's been using it quite effectively in local tournaments/small GTs. That's 15" (?) Nova that blinds any enemy units is disgusting. The AP3 Flamers doesn't suck either. Spell Familiar for reroll tests, etc. Among other spells. It's a lot of points, but used correctly and accompanied by a grimoir, that guys is mean.

The AP3 Flamer is not black legion, it's regular vanilla CSM.
The spell Familar anyone can take
The 375 point DP, Be'lakor, that is so good is also available to any CSM as well as Black Legion

Is the FMC Be'lakor or someone else?
If so, what's his name again?

The 15" Nova was a Black Legion only FMC I thought. Grain of salt people!

Edit: Balestar might be the name of the FMC I'm thinking of. Lol.
The Nova power is a black legion artifact. Balestar is a crimson slaughter artifact. The FMC is Belakor, which comes from a dataslate.

Ah I see. I know he uses the Nova power. So with this information, I'm assuming he runs a normal Daemon Prince with the Black Legion Artifact. He also runs 10 Cultists and 1 Heldrakes for the rest of his ally detachment. He runs Black Legion supplement simply for the Nova.
Now that I know HOW he gets it, that artifact is still very dirty. Blind is a very peculiar rule that some armies simply ignore (looking at you Tau!), but in the right hands can really hurt. The enemy can't even LOS from the Nova and in some cases, the entire army can be effected by the blind and all take Initiative checks. 15" Nova, 30" AoE is monstrous and terrain doesn't provide any defense against it.
I'd argue it is a complete game-changer and worth at least looking at the Black Legion Supplement.
Final Note: He runs a hordes daemon army with Fateweaver. Harpies/Screamers/Horrors/Cultists with 2 FMCs. Fateweaver and said DP with Artifact.
