I'm wanting a new horde army I thought instead of just asking "what army should I get guyz??" I thought why not ask everyone which they would pick and why.
Might help me make a decision for myself, all I know is I like both of them for an equal amount of different reasons. So either I pick is a good choice but I simply can't bring it down on a coin toss as it will be a money sink.
So if you were starting a second army after space marines which horde army would it be and why are they the best choice?

IG if for no other reason than the allies matrix. Also, I loves me some IG just cooler models in my opinion, never been too keen on space bugs.

Guard can field more models with conscripts, but the Tyranids can replace theirs, and with Tervi-spam a Tyranid list can end up having more models anyway.
The Tyranids also spam a lot of MCs just like how the Guard can field a ton of vehicles.
Both armies are likely to get a supplement soon, and IA4's update is due to drop soon.
If you want I can explain the differences between them in more depth.
Other horde armies include the Orks, and Chaos (cultists/zombies) first and foremost.
Armies who can also blob but not quite as well are Kroot heavy Tau, Daemons, power armor CSMs, and Necrons.

My vote goes to Tyranids . I've recently started collecting them and think they're a blast to play. Plus in my opinion I think they're some of the coolest looking models out there (Haruspex). They also look great when you have 300 models charging towards your opponent lol
I've also done the gun line thing with my Tau (including kroot blob) and it just gets boring to play. Tyranids offer options in play style and I like that they take more skill and thinking to use properly.

IMHO it all goes for the feel you want. the Guard are your normal men fighting off against the odd, throwing lives after lvies in an attempt to hault the advance of the enemy,
the tyranids are well, the Zerg. they're pretty much the Zerg. more to the point when Blizzard made starcraft they based the zerg on the 'nids

I’ll say grab Guard not just because I’m a Guard player, but since you have Space Marines already IG makes a really great ally with them so you can still have fun mixing the two of them together in games. Tyranids can’t ally with anything else so you would either be playing one army or the other.

I have both, they're both fun to play. I enjoy painting Tyranids, you can do whatever you want with them and as long as you paint it well, it'll look good.
Game wise, I tend to prefer IG, partially because I hate spending ages in the movement phase with my Tyranids moving the swarm of Hormaguants I have (it's an awesome spectacle, right up until you realise you have to move the little bastards ).

Well as a bid player, I would have to say that they are lots of fun to play, with generally a different feel to most armies because of synapse, but this codex is a little bland. I would like to start a DKOK army, because sweet baby Jesus the models are exquisite, but that's my two cents.

I'd decide which army you'd like to assemble and paint.
IMO, Tyrranid models are in the upper class of what GW is currently producing. But they are, after all, space bugs ripped off of the Aliens, Starship Trooper, and other movie franchises, and that's not everyone's cup of tea.
Imperial Guard is tanks and GI Joe-type models. If you like tanks and a sorta modern-day looking army of soldiers, there you go. I have a couple friends who LOVE IG because basically they love WWII stuff, and alot of IG looks like WWII models (they got your American, Germans, Brits, Russian, and Miscellaneous).
You should also lok at Orks if you want to go horde.

OK...my only point was Tyranids are based off of movie-looking space bugs. So if you like space bugs in movies, you'd like Tyranids.

I say yay for guard, nay for nids because of sheer diversity I took almost three months just to decide where my regiment came from (desert, city, swamp, jungle, winter, and many more), plus you can allie with every army except nids if I recall, and they are the fluffiest army, so thats my input.

Well I do have a love of space creatures like starship troopers and alien.
But I also like to give a lot of personality to each model and that would be hard to do with nids but painting nids will probably be a lot easier and i always falter on painting.
I like the guard tanks, I like the nid MC, damn they are equal for different reasons. If I go out and buy a new army its got to be right otherwise its more money gone.

Not sure about "easier" to paint but Nids are certainly more enjoyable to paint for me. You can go as simple or complex as you want and they can look good either way.
Guard can be done quickly, but they're boring. The models themselves generally lack a lot of character.
That said, I have both with a full strength platoon of both Valhallans and Cadians all painted while my Nids have been WIP for about 7 years now with a converted Flyrant, 'Fex, 9 warriors, 3 Raveners, a Broodlord and 20 each Termigants and Hormagaunts fully painted and many times that either assembled or still in the boxes.
I don't game much anymore, mostly collect, convert and paint when I get the chance. As such, I don't really care about how "competitive" an army is and base my collection more on the models that I like while keeping the selections "legal" per the Codex. The important thing to remember with a horde army is that you're going to have a lot of minis to paint. As such you either need to go with something easy to just crank out (Guard were this for me) or something with enough "cool" that you like painting them ('Nids and Orks were this for me; my Ork army has been WIP since the 3ed Codex and the first gen of modern sculpts first dropped).

My bias as a Tyranid player is well known, so I am going to present this in Pros and Cons for you to decide yourself.
The Guard has tanks, but the 'nids have Carnifexes which eat said tanks.
'Nids have Termagants, but Guard has templates out the wazoo.
The 'nids lost the Doom of Mal'antai, but the Guard lost Marbo.
Tyranids have flying Hive Tyrants, but the Guard has E = mc2, where E equals grounding checks, M equals guardsman, and C squared is directly quantifiable to the amount of flashlights you can give them.
You decide.

My favorite horde here would be CSM. Take the number of points, subtract ~150 and then divide that number by 13, and that's how many power-armor dudes you're fielding.
But between those two, and given that you already played space marines... I'm going to go tyranid? If you want an IoM army with a bunch of dudes with lascannons and meltaguns, then you have space marines already. Unless there's something specific drawing you to guard, I'd make your second army as different from your first army as you can make it.

Ohmagod, Tyranids are the plague. They're worse than syphilis, I swear.
I'm not talking about the new codex or synapse being a pain in the ass, that's been talked about to oblivion. I'm talking about having zero allies. Zero. fething. Allies.
So essentially unless you're willing to go without any allies and just confine yourself to a crap-coffin forever, Tyranids are a bad idea.
Guard on the other hand, are joy. They have all sorts of fun strategies you can use, don't have friggin' synapse, and have (IMO) more variety and opportunity to tailor your playstyle to them. Not to mention the thing where you can basically take your pick of any of the other Imperial armies and take them as allies.
I'd pick Guard.

If I wanted a hoard, I would play blob guard purely because the new AM book is great and the Tyranid book is, well, not.
Several Infantry Platoons, supported by a few command squads and psykers, maybe a few tanks too, and there you are. One hoard army.
