yes it's going to be one of those rants. Fact is I know that there are lots of people getting miffed at the way WH40K rules are just getting more and more ridiculous. There seems to be an inflation situation where heavier weapons and overpowered armies keep coming. Worst of all I think is the sly commercial calculation in how to maximise the sale of products via setting up the codexes to work for it. Of course it would be naive to think this would not happen and I am well aware that none of this is anything new but it really just feels like the fluff is getting trashed so that balancing and representing the mythology we all know and love is subservient to market fluctuations and manipulating the players. The GW site and materials are all full of crap about how much they love and nurture their loyalty community but the development of rules, the absurd changes in codexes.... axing IG characters, making STs into a form of IG regiment.... it just tires me out.
When it comes to the IG I know of many players that would have preferred to see more variety between regiments and the ability to be more strategic in the game in general. With the more recent codexes it seems more and more is based on chance to the point that you cannot buy your army and develop your own fluff because it has no reflection in the rules.
I suppose the only solution is to make a buffét of the last few editions and make up the rest of the rules with your mates.
