So I was thinking of creating an IG Deathstrike Battery list. I was going to use a 2,000 point double foc for this. I was looking to make one for a fun list. What I was looking toward doing was making a deathstrike battery with its supporting units for protection. But I was unsure of how these batteries are supported or protected. Any ideas of how these units are formed or any fluff that could help with this? Thanks for your help.

Hide. Point. Click.

Nothing to it.

Of course, if you're looking at playing a game that large, then you might want to consider making it a small 1v1 apocalypse game instead, as that will likely suit what you're looking for better.

Plus, it will let you take that dataslate that gives deathstrikes a vortex missile.

That's what I call the "Cuban Missile Crisis" list. "Doomsday Clock" would be another fun name for that build.

I would imagine that fluff-wise, batteries of Deathstrikes would be back behind the main battle lines, and only get engaged when the enemy either breaks through or sneaks past the main IG defenses. I wouldn't figure there would be much in the way of fast or reactive units, and it would mostly just be infantry at and around their base. A command bastion, some defense lines, bunkers, or trenches would make sense. I'd only put aircraft in there if there was a Skyshield for them to land/resupply at.

Dataslate that does what? First I've heard of it, sounds awesome!

If I do not use a double foc, I was thinking of having 3 of them. But I want to set up the force like it is an escort unit. I was reading around about how they would use them by sending in waves of troops to keep the enemy busy and then let loose with their payloads. So maybe with an escort type unit would be sentinels, infantry platoons, and storm troopers? Or perhaps veterans with sniper rifles+heavy bolters, sentinels, and some chimeras or tauroxes? What would look like a good escort force? Any ideas are welcome. I am not too particular about effectiveness, I was looking more for a themed force.

Tauroxes would actually make sense in this context as they are't really frontline vehicles. As deathstrikes are ICBMs they should't technically need any assistance on the offensive. Only as a defensive screen. Hydras and the FW sabre platform thingies would also work well.

Ailaros has been misled, I'm 99% the data slate doesn't let you take Vortex Missiles on Deathstrikes.

The only way to do so right now I'm pretty sure is to take the Deathstrike Vortex Missile Battery Apocalypse Formation.

Myself? If I was to take a Deathstrike battery, I'd either:

1) Take a F.O.R with Shield Generators for LOS blocking the entire battery, creating a massive roadblock for fast armies trying to get close enough to invalidate your ability to shoot the missiles, and for giving huge cover to your defensive infantry

2) Take Aegis/Martys defence lines for creating a fast assault roadblock and giving some cover to the battery potentially

3) Put all the Deathstrikes on the far left or right corner of your deployment, put more vast amounts of firepower (think HQ russes) on the other corner where they have a good view of the Deathstrike corner. Then watch as White Scars players throw a hissy fit because either way they're going to be blown into oblivion.

Honestly, I'm quite confident with the idea of 1).

then create an attacking list that deepstrikes/infiltrates in with the objective of taking out the 'scuds'.

Either castle up in one big clump with a huge conscript bubble wrap, or position your deathstrikes in far corners of your deployment to force your enemy to attack one edge or at least split his forces.

If castling, stick them on top of a Skyshield for 4+ invul goodness, and conscript bubble wrap all around or on the Skyshield itself to block enemy assaulting units. Also spread your units out to counter deepstriking, forcing a higher risk of the enemy scattering into your units and mishapping. Alternatively load up on Command tanks and use them as LoS blockers, also positioned such that an enemy assault can't move past to get into base to base with the deathstrikes, i.e. corner touching a corner, in a wedge. Also take Tauroxes as LoS blockers since they have a larger profile compared to the Chimera- that also fits with the escort fluff.

Or, my personal favourite, use the Deathstrike list 'Operation Cadian Freedom', the surprise being there are no Deathstrikes
