Hello my fellow Dakkadakka's, i have recently started to look at my rather small steam library and i have been thinking of trying to add some good 4x games to it,hopefully any games that are closed to the old Master of Orion games.
That being said, i'm not sure what good games to pick up since there are a lot of them out there, the only current 4x games that i'm currently owning are GC 1-2. so mabey any one out there could give me some good suggestions.
Added to that i'm also looking more into adding some Rpg games since i only currently have both Borderlands games, and i see little if any point in buying a single player rpg game on steam since i'm more of a multi player/co op person when it comes to steam games.

Looking for games close to Master of Orion but you don't own Master of Orion? You should do something about that.
And you're also looking for good RPGs?

Star Wars Supremacy was very good back in the day. Unsure of running it on newer OS's though.

Has the main ST mod for Sins been updated recently? Or are the Borg still OP as all hell?

Age of Wonders 3 is a great 4x game available on Steam. I would also recommend looking into Endless Legend, which is currently in early access on Steam. By the way, when is someone going to create an ultimate Warhammer 40K 4x style game?!? Now that would be awesome!

A Heretic may see the truth and seek redemption. He may be forgiven his past and will be absolved in death. A Traitor can never be forgiven. A Traitor will never find peace in this world or the next. There is nothing as wretched or as hated in all the world as a Traitor. - Cardinal Khrysdam, Instructum Absolutio |

Haegemonia: Legions of Iron is a good game, was recently released on steam. A better 4x game than Sins anyway.

For a MOO style 4x game, I'd highly recommend Galactic Civilizations, by Stardock. There have been two iterations of it so far, and a third one has been announced.

If you want rpgs the best place would be gog.com but if you are into more modern then anything from obsidian is great. ps. borderlands is not an rpg.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.
If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in. |

Which trek mod? One is pretty much finished and the other is broken and feth, it's the latter I think you mean.

What about non-steam games for RPGs? If you've got a 3DS Bravely Default is worth checking. out. It's the first game I've played that manages to capture the feel of the old SNES-era jRPGs without all the belt-buckle character design and navel-gazing-angst baggage the genre starting picking up around the PS2 era. It's seriously solid, if you're into that sort of thing.

Do the characters improve? I played a bit of it and met the first girl Agnes and remember one of the first conversations being like:
Agnes: I MUST DO THIS ALONE
Hero guy: But I can help you, you know, like I just totally helped you back there?
Agnes: ALONE.EXE
Fairy companion: Hey Agnes, this guy is probably the guy in the prophecy who is supposed to help you
Agnes: DON'T CARE BECAUSE I'M THICK

Yes and No. I'll grant Anges is pretty insufferable and develops to only become even more insufferable for the most part. Tiz "Hero Guy" stays for the most part pretty bland but inoffensive.
However, I found they're more than made up for by Edea, the blonde girl on the cover. The character kind of hams up these big forceful statements about right, wrong, honor and such that just really work for me. I mean the character is still mostly playing to an archetype here but it's well executed and charming, if you like that sort of thing. She's also probably got the most significant arc, being that she betrays the big-bad-empire( TM) to join you early on. I also thoroughly enjoy voice directing here, such as the characters direct pronunciation of what might normally be read as more a groan or grunt, this is conversational and a point some people found really irritating.
The final character is closer to your sort stock lecherous-guy comic relief character but is well executed again, if you like that sort of thing.
You're definitely sort of getting two "mehs/ok" and an "ugh" to one really enjoyable character here. At least in my view. The game certainly has bigger strengths than its cast, but I enjoy the Edea character enough to give it a pass on the weaknesses with the rest of the crew.
