Does anyone else think that infantry vs infantry is probably the most boring combination to play in FOW? I played as German FJs vs Brit Commando, and it was probably the most boring game I've played.

Does anyone else find tank vs tank (or armoured car) much more enjoyable?

Also, I'm thinking about starting a small US Tank Destroyer company, would this list be viable yet not too over-powered with the new TD rules? (from blood guts glory)

I'm sure that this has already been asked, but what is the general preference of Hellcat vs M10? It would be better for me to get M10s so i could also use them with my British army, but I think Hellcats are better...

I like infantry vs. infantry battles a lot. If you have some vehicles and heavy weapons in support they can be pretty dynamic, especially if you use a good amount of terrain (this is key in FOW). It's better if you do a mission or historical scenario though. If both players just dig in and sit back and throw arty and air at each other the whole time, yeah, that would be boring.

We did play the counter attack mission, so it seemed like a really in your face, dug-in infantry battle, the commandos couldn't really deal with...

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

A US TD list should be interesting, all those special rules, fast vehicles and attached recon should be fun.

Still you may end up better off with Sherman 76's. US TD's are intended for hit and fade, other races use TD's for brute defensive work.

I am however biased against your list anyway, Patton is turning up like Eldrad, there for every battle. Each to their own but I don't like special characters in FoW, especially for regular list builds.

British M10's had a different paint job, gun and crew uniform, so it might be best to buy different tanks for them. Thisis of itself an excuse to get Hellcats for variety.

Hellcats are faster but is the speed needed? I dont think so, lets look at this historically. The M10 was more popular with crews because its turret stopped bullets, the M18 was more feared by the Germans because of its speed, however this was only truly scary because by the time the Hellcat entered active service the Panzerwaffe did not have the resources for maneuver battle.
Now the vulnerabilities of the M18 play out in game, but the reason why the mobility mattered does not, if 1945 era Panzers had to roll a dice to move, then having Hellcats turn the flank would be scarier than it is.

All in all its up to you, both are fast, both have the same gun (the M18 with the 17pdr never reached US service until after the surrender). They are near identical so take what you want.

For what its worth I will likely only buy the M10, barring some crazy miniatures offer; and may not buy any at all being largely content with a Sherman 'horde' list. My preference largely stems from the fact that a bit of armour will be useful when things go wrong, and more crucially the M10 served in Italy and Normandy, wheras the M18 is available very late in fact when most of the critical fighting was done. Modeling western front post Ardennes campaign is rather pointless so you really have only one campaign to focus on.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

I think infantry on infantry can be very challenging to play; but the lists can vary hugely, my '53 rd welsh' list has everything mobile, whilst my Brit para's are entirely trackless. Both offer different challenges to play.

I have had some good Infantry GAmes,USA PAras vs. VOlks for example. But then you occasionally get a Camper with a Vet army and all you do is play artilery tennis.I used to play against a camper alot. But their are ways to get around that use the terrain,Smoke. To get into position to Assualt.another good thing that alot of people do not use is Fast attack and recon to harrass the Flanks and the Artillery parks.
So sometimes it is good t o play against a camper so you dont loose your tactical edge.I know i iam sure as hell rusty after not playing for 5 months,My GRenadier Guards Armor got it handed to them by the SS Wiking ,But bad dice do not help either.ONe last thing about learning to play against a camper it does help you if you are playing in Tournaments.I know a few tourney players that are Campers.

I much prefer infantry battles to tank Vs tank. Combined arms tend to make for better games anyway. I think that the best thing about late war is that all tank lists are much less viable than they are in mid war due to all the infantry AT assets that are available.

I think that the dullest games are arty vs arty or heavy tank companies vainly trying to kill each other.

Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.

Infantry vs infantry battles tend to be alot of fun. How much smoke do you guys normally use?

Quote from chromedog
and 40k was like McDonalds - you could get it anywhere - it wouldn't necessarily satisfy, but it was probably better than nothing.

As much smoke as possible usually 2 sources minimum (germans often 1 though), ideally a mix of indirect and direct.
