Yes, yes. We are all aware how ridiculous the Skyblight formation is.....I want to know if I could improve this any more:

Primary detachment
HQ
Flyrant dual TL-BL devourers = 230
Flyrant dual TL-BL devourers = 230
ELITE
Venomthrope = 45
TROOP
10 Fleshborer termagants = 40
10 Fleshborer termagants = 40
HEAVY
Mawloc =140
FORTIFICATION
Bastion with Comms relay = 95

Skyblight detachment
Flyrant Boneswords, Scything talons, Toxin sacs = 225
15 Gargoyles = 90
15 Gargoyles = 90
15 Gargoyles = 90
Harpy TL-VC = 140
Harpy TL-VC = 140
Hive Crone = 155

Total = 1750

Thoughts:
  • I think I have plenty of flier defense between the Crone and Dakkaflyrants

  • 5 scoring units, 3 of which come back on 4+ is probably enough scoring (but can be a liability if FA are worth VPs)

  • I want to have something to deal with O'Vesa + company or Wraithknights, hence the assassin Flyrant

  • Mawloc is more to influence opponent's deployment (more than anything)

  • (Seemingly obligatory) Venomthrope in the Bastion. Gives all of those FMCs something to BLOS and a nice boost to their Jink.

  • Comms relay is dual purpose. One: To ensure my Fliers (and Mawloc) come in when I want them; and Two: To mitigate Alpha strikes or Beta strikes.

  • Possible points to improve on:
  • Drop the Gargoyle units to 10, they come back anyways so save the points = 90. This can translate to a Warrior brood, a couple of Biovores, or even pump up one of the termagant units to 30 strong.

  • One Mawloc is, in my experience very hit and miss. I could replace him with a Dakkafex or possibly another Harpy/Crone(with some point shuffling) in the Primary detachment.

  • What does everyone else think?

    Looks good. My only concern is the lack of synapse in the backfield. Perhaps drop a few gargoyles for 1 zoan?

    Mawloc is fine. I like him.

    It's easy to get caught up with offense, you're right. I am missing backfield synapse. I will have to take your suggestion and sacrifice a few bodies for it.

    Additionally, that'll make it easier for my opponents to kill off the unit and thereby giving the unit a chance to come back.

    Yeah, you know I like the Zoey.. That's why I usually take two Warrior Broods as the mandatory Troops...Extra Synapse

    Hopefully enemies will be so dazzled by all the Winged Death! , and miss Synapse Hunting, till it's too late...

    I would really like to take warriors. They looks bad a$$!! I think they are my favorite model. Otoh they are very "meh" in game.

    Cost difference between the warriors and MSU gants is 80 points. That buys me a unit of 10 Gargolyes that come back on a 4!!In my list, I do know where I'd borrow those 80 points from without detriment.

    And the as far as synapse hunting...I did purchase a bastion for additional BLOS terrain. Most armies don't have more than one unit that have both ignores cover AND ignores saves that threaten a FMC. So I position the Flyrants so they are protected from that one (ok, maaaaybe two) threats. Turn 2 I plays two Flyrants super offensively and the last defensively nearby the bastion.

    I don't think that synapse will be too huge of a problem for me...but we'll see! I added the Zoanthrope that Jy2 suggested and that should be enough.

    Yeah, like I said, hopefully you'll be fortunate. Warriors are good at camping out in terrain, while sniping with a Cannon... But they are both Synapse, and Troops. Good luck!

    Anyone else? I would really like some input from people who don't play nids too.

    Does anyone think it'd be valuable to reduce the gargoyle units to #10 in order to afford a minimal unit of Warriors?

    Probably not. If your terms are out of synapse, they will usually run off and hide in the closest terrain. Considering you will most likely be using them to hold your backfield objectives, just place your objectives in/by terrain.
