Since GW seems to be circling around to their roots with "new" rules, weapons and units: what's the best thing you remember about 2nd ed and Rogue Traded you'd like to see come back?

I'd like to see Ork Klans myself - and with the current way of releases, this will probably occur for a small fee of $50 per...

Lifta Droppas (non forgeworld) as well.

No madam, 40,000 is the year that this game is set in. Not how much it costs. Though you may have a point. - GW Fulchester

The prefect example of someone missing the point.
Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.
-Leman Russ, Meditations on Imperial Command book XVI (AKA the RT era White Dwarf Commpendium).
Its just a shame that they couldn't fight off Andy Chambers.

Definitely saving throw modifiers instead of just flat AP values.
Possibly different movement speeds, although I could probably live without it.

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

Anyone for 2d6 armor saves? Terminator armor being 4+ on 2d6....

Having played some 2nd Ed games again recently, I have to say:
- AP values and Modifiers are virtually the same in this Sci Fantasy setting. Either way there are plenty of very powerful guns that ignore your save... The Change to cover being a save rather than a modifier is one I think works fairly well actually.

- Vehicles that actually lumber around rather effectively, laying down plenty of firepower. I still feel like my Tanks and Dreadnoughts fall down far too quickly.

- A psychic phase! I love the swirling forces of the warp being channeled onto the battlefield! I'm very much looking forward to seeing if the new rumoured psychic phase is good.

- Better allies. They existed in 2nd but were limited by points percentage and clashed with your own support. As if Allies came out of the same FOC chart now, meaning if you take a Heldrake, you can't take one FA of your own army...

- Asymmetrical missions. Taking a different Mission Card each, both fighting for different goals, really makes match ups more interesting because there's more variety, but also helps my enjoyment of narrative; encouraging me to come up with the story of why these armies have those goals. Again, curious to see if the rumoured Mission Cards allow some of this feeling...

That last one may be a joke.

Maybe.

I read a 1993 white dwarf (I'm a fifth-edition starter) once and I was amazed at how detailed the damage table was for a dreadnought - there was the potential you could just rip an arm off, or you could even rip an arm off and make the damn thing explode! I'd love to see more detail in the damage chart, and a loss of this idea of streamlining play.

A couple of weeks back my Dark Reapers fired on my friend's Chaos Dread and a swarm of missiles blew away its arm, with explosions and fires spreading down to its torso, which jammed the servos in its legs, immobilising it.

Loved that detail...

Who wouldn't? IF the game's that descriptive, does it matter if it takes ten millenia? Current 40k means games are voer very quickly. I don't see what's fun about it.

+1 for fun.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

+3 for Fun.

Maybe I'll just find all the RT/2ed books and weep bitterly...
