SPOILER ALERT

At the end of Vulkan Lives. Vulkan teleports himself out of Curze's ship. Then reappears in Unremeberered Empire. However Curze has been engaged in a long drwan conflict with the Lion by this point, and has wound up as a prisoner on the Lion's ship. Suggesting some time has passed. Yet the actions of John Grammiticus seem to indicate that these events happen quickly if not immdiatley afterwards. THere were other factors that increased my confusion but as I'm typing this can;t remember. Sorry.

My main question is when did Vulkan lives actually occur.

I'm pretty sure that it all happens right after Isstvan V as in Scorched Earth the Salamander survivors are still searching for Vulkan.

I've not read it myself yet though.

No pity, no remorse, no shoes

Vulkan Lives certainly seems to be after Istvaan whereas Unremembered Empire is definitely after the Thramas Crusade. The way I read it was that Vulkan didn't so much directly teleport, he was tumbling through the warp (hence his insanity in UE) When Guilliman launched his new beacon, Vulkan was drawn to it and materialised in the upper atmosphere of Macragge, just as The Dark Angels and Shattered Legions were drawn to the world from the warp when the beacon was activated. I think we can assume that sometime must have passed because the Underworld war on Calth is finished and Grammaticus would have needed time to get to Macragge. So given that the Thramas Crusade was meant to be 2 years long, I'd say that a little over that, is how far apart the books are set.
