2 hours ago I was cutting off my Exocrine from the base to pime it and the hobby knife slipped and ended in my wrist. The cut is deep to the bone, not sure if artery was damaged but there was lot of blood and some meat out, I might have pulled it out too dynamicaly. Fun part was Exocrine stupid grin while I was bleeding all over the place.
Tendons and nerves seem ok thankfuly, I'm stitched now and wondering if you have some similar stories or I'm that special kind of idiot.
I love that particular model even more now btw.

If you're spurting blood periodically (and I do mean SPURTING) then it's an arterial cut, if it's more of a gushing or oozing it's more likely a vein or capillaries you sliced open.
Either way if it is literally "to the bone" I'd go see a doc to get it looked at and closed up.

I'd like to assume that the OP didn't try to quick-fix their own slashed wrist with some needle and thread (and some impressive dexterity).
OT: My worst was when I was trying to clean one of the old Broadsides. Blade wasn't very sharp, knife slipped out of my hand and into my pinky finger by about half an inch. The sad thing is, the worst part about the whole ordeal was that it happened at the FLGS about 20 minutes before game time, so I wasn't able to get a game in that week.

I think it was an artery, or both artery and vein, looked really bad - my wife almost fainted when she saw that. The only way to stop the bleeding was keeping my arm as high as possible and clench my hand on the wrist to the point of getting the hand on affected arm white. I went straight to the hospital ofc and was stitched, vaccined etc, the surgeon was not very talkative though at 11.30 PM and the papers are unreadable for me, need to see my doctor to know the details. That Exocrine is a real bastard, thankful now it was not a bloodthirster I was working on. Heh cheap pun couldn't resist.
Yes it is literaly to the bone, I pushed hard expecting resistance but that one leg was only barely glued, if at all. I bought the model used and glued but not primed, hate playing with bare plastic and was very much in a hurry to get it to the game tommorow at least primed, well I won't now.
A good time for a general reminder I guess, knives can hurt you and you should cut in the opposite direction of your body. A tip for anyone else who is having issues with bleeding out the arms: put a tennis ball, a waterbottle or just your fist in your armpit and squeeze down with your arm, that'll pinch the artery and slow or stop the bleeding.
Or use a tourniquet. But I'd leave that to professionals since cutting off the blood supply that way can be dangerous for you if it's on too long or it somehow comes undone.
What? I had to learn first aid in the Army. Even now I remember how to deal with a sucking chest wound, how how to decompress a lung (though the latter needs a specific bit of equipment to do properly).
Either way, good to see you're doing well. And yes, stabbing yourself sucks and care should always be taken with blades of any kind.....I feel like one of those GI Joe PSAs now.....

Thanks I'm happy too. The only fear is the look on my wife's face seeing me tommorow with exactly the same knife working on exactly the same Exocrine...
btw what they say about addictions and continuing despite harm to health? hmm
Jesus this one, it can get worse actualy:
bout 2 months ago i was cutting a baneblade sprue.( not the easiest thing it would seem) and my room mate thought it would be a good idea to come up behind me and scare me. as he pushed me forward and yelled ,my stanley blade( i think amerikans call it x-acto or something) pushed through the sprue. poping of the peice i was cutting and ripping down through my palm and all the way to my elbow.i looked at the neat litle red line for about 5 seconds and then it opened up . the cut was about a half inch deep. .... talk about blood for the blood god. i passed out before the ambulance got there and i spent 2 days in hospitle recovering from blood loss.i dont use a blade to get my models of the sprue anymore . there should be a photo about here which will give you an idea of how bad it was

While trimming some models (termagaunts i think?) the knife slipped and i cut the end of my finger. Maybe 2mm of flesh off, i was seeing a nerve. Normaly i'm not scared of blood but seeing that made my head spin.

I just started the hobby, and I sliced off the first layer of the epidermis, and cut deep into the second. Bled quire a bit and I went through quite a few band-aids, and the damn thing took two weeks to heal. I used to have a scar, but I think that layer was eventually shed so I lost it.
(And there was no scar tissue)

I couldn't find my clippers so I tried using a scissors. I slipped and cut the webbing between my fingers right in half. That left a scar.

Ok ok, I cant let this thread pass without adding my own little story.
About 8~9 years ago, still in the early days of the hobby for me, I was converting an Elven chariot. There was this one section I was trying to cut (with a stanley knife), that was really awkward, so I said to myself; "I'll cut towards myself, just this once, it will be fine." . . .
When the blade slipped it open upped a line from the base of my thumb to my wrist on my left hand. There was a prodigious amount of blood, the GP sent me to the emergency room, and they decided to send me to a specialist. 12 external stitches, 2 internal (I cut the tendon around the base of my thumb), 3 months in a cast and regular dexterity exercises later, and I had almost completely full range of movement of my thumb back. For years afterwards the guys at the local GW, whenever I was in the store, and they were instructing kids on knife safety, they would pull me over and get me to show the kids the scar. :p

I've got a small scar that runs from the knuckle of my right thumb down to the palm joint. I apparently have rather the disposition towards flicking my knife around when I'm working. Never felt the cut, just found it later... weird, huh? I guess I only cut the top layer of skin, don't think it even drew much (if any) blood...
But I've come close to doing worse. Superglued myself to a fair few models. Apparently, My Guard want to loot me, never mind Orks.

Have a few scars on my hands but none from hobby related things. I am rather clumsy though. When I'm in hardcore hobby mode I'll stick myself in the finger with a hobby knife at least once every couple days. Nothing really major, few drops of blood and done. I'd imagine it's rather similar to those finger needle tests that diabetics need to put up with. There have been a couple times I've dropped my hobby knife and it's landed an inch away from my toe. I imagine that one could have gone much much worse than it ended out happening.

Unless it's weighted right, a dropped hobby knife should at worst just make a small cut, nothing really painful.

i have never myself done anything more than a few stabs in my thumb, hardly ever drawn any blood. Mt father on the other hand, well he doesnt play warhammer or such, he´s into RC-models. He once managed supergluing his foot to the floor. Luckily, the floor had a cork-mat. There were a few persons who wondered why a little part of the mat in front of his desk was cut out...

Ouch, that sounds nasty OP. Never really had any particularly bad incidents myself. Usually just poking my fingertips with the tip of my knife, but years of playing guitar has calloused my fingertips quite nicely, so the blade usually glances off.
Now super glue on the other hand? I shouldn't be let loose with that stuff. Glued my hand to my face once. Must have leaned in some spilled glue, and then rested my chin on my hand. Luckily I noticed before it set properly, still hurt like a bitch though when I pulled it off. Also, whilst not painful, I managed to glue my knees together a while back. Thankfully it didn't soak through my jeans, but was still a bit awkward. Nobody at work noticed luckily. I'd never have lived that one down.

I was trying to drill a hole with my hobby knife on a very small surface, slipped right into top of my middle finger, it went down to the first joint before I reacted by pulling the hobby knife away sideways, result being that I split the finger neatly from inside.
Imagine putting a knife into the top of a hotdog, then pulling it out through the side.
Everything on the worktable was bathed in blood, but thankfully while extremities always start pumping ridiculous amounts of blood when they're ripped open, they also stop the pump within a minute or less.

And this, children, is why you always cut AWAY from you... Regarding superglue - water cures it, and "hot" water doesn't have any benefit over cold water. I've taught my kids that if they get superglue on their fingers that they need to keep them splayed out (not touching) then run water over the area. That will cause the superglue to cure pretty much immediately. Then they can start the process of picking it off.
