Subject: Are there any Black Templar players left?
I'm currently running a BT army, and it's awesome.
I'm currently playing an infantry heavy list (1100 pts of crusader squads makes for the fun times). On top of my infantry I have my CQC Chapter Master (with jumppack) who wrecks everything he touches, then I sprinkle in some Assault Squads, Razorbacks and Landspeeders to taste. (I am yet to acquire a LRC, but soon(tm)......)
I love BT as an army. The crusader squads alone are the reason I play 40k at all. Yeah they're not the most powerful unit, but I love them because of how goddamn fluffy and awesome they are. Oh, and for the extra-crusader-y feel I like to team up with GKs

BT player reporting in. Our guys are better than ever. They might have lost some cc edge (they never were a really cc-oriented MEQ army to begin with, as that honor resides with the space wolves and blood angels) and had many ranged warfare disadvantages, and this really started taking its toll when 6th edition came out and nerfed assault armies hard, but thanks to the SM codex we now have access to all the shiny new toys that were exclusive to vanilla space marines previously.

While probably true, I hate using special characters in any way. Besides, my BT's are a successor chapter, Helbrecht and Grimaldus are far to busy to bother with us

Loyal Templar player here, have had them since 4th ed. As a matter of fact there are 2 other Templar players where I game. As said above Crusader squads rock and having access to whirlwinds etc only makes us a better faction.
The black rage is within us all. Lies offer no shield against the inevitable. You speak of donning the black of duty for the red of brotherhood; but it is the black of rage you shall wear when the darkness comes for you.

Yeah, just an entire playstyle dedicated to getting into close combat as quickly as possible, with fewer long-range options than other variant Codices. Totally not CC-oriented at all.
Competetively we're bust, in friendly games I'm still having fun with them though. Managed to Sweeping Advance a Riptide with two Neophytes the other day, that made me chuckle.
For thirteen years I had a dog with fur the darkest black. For thirteen years he was my friend, oh how I want him back.

What I mean is that even during our glory days we were a supposedly close combat army, but never really good at it. If we faced blood angels or space wolves, we'd usually get torn to shreds by their dedicated cc-units that we for example didnt have. We only had large blobs (good fodder for enemy LC termies) and our only specialist unit were sword brethren, who were just glorified veterans with one of 3 USRs.
Same goes for our terminators and the like. Pick 1 of 3 USRs.
The only uniquely cc-thing about our army were the vows.
Also how did you manage to sweep a riptide? Arent they monstrous creatures and thus fearless and thus unable to fall back from cc?

Here you go, a forum for BT players. May it motivate you and have great fun.
Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.
Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

I love the Black Templars. They were the first army I played when I jumped into 40K mid-5th edition.
But I don't play them now. They're just way too boring, imo. I still support the concept of the Templars being rolled into the main SM codex; I think Blood Angels, Space Wolves and Dark Angels should get the same treatment; but the execution of their roll-up into the main 'dex was very dull and uninspired.
My love for a Space Marine tide list has turned to Chaos. When I feel the itch to overwhelm an enemy in MEQ bodies, I run my Red Tide list with MoKCSM out the ass.

I mean I would pick up the army myself, but the trouble and the money it would cost to make this glorious legion to see it just get face rolled of the bored would just be unsatisfying.
Has anyone had any luck playing BT with genuine success?

In small points games they're not bad, slightly better than regular marines in that you can afford to not take transports because of Crusader. Otherwise they're just normal marines, except worse because they can't benefit from Librarians (before they had worthwhile special rules for the lack of Whirlwinds and Librarians). As I said earlier, if you want to stand a fighting chance against more powerful armies, it's probably best to be allying in some Guard.

Except for fluff reasons, why can't BT take Psykers? I know they couldn't in 5th Ed, but I just looked through my 6th MEQ codex and no such restrictions exist... This is odd because alot of people seem to be under the impression that they still can't take psykers.

Go to the Librarian entry in the back end of the book, it specifically states you can't take them with BT.
You can ally in psykers, just not take them.

Yeah just found it, I thought it would be under chapter tactics and/or the detailed unit entries, not the actual army list ><
Never found a reason to take pyskers in 40ktbh, I don't know anyone who takes Psykers unless they play 'Nids or GK.

I'm a Guard player but the BT feature heavily in my regiment's fluff. I will be building dedicated a Allied detachment of them once i finish my guard. I just like the feel of them, BT are just cool for some reason. Heck It might even evolve into army unto itself in time.

The enemies of Mankind may employ dark sciences or alien weapons beyond Humanity's ken, but such deviance comes to naught in the face of honest human intolerance back by a sufficient number of guns.

I played DA, did take the one psyker for telepathy. The IG player I play with takes no psykers, and I frequently face Dark Eldar or Orks.
Yes, the armies i've played against are limited, so my opinion is fairly worthless here xD
Kind of annoyed with the addition of the Psyker Phase in 7th; since i'm now missing an entire phase... AGAIN (I play WoC in WFB) and since it has a phase dedicated to Psyker powers now, i'm willing to bet it'll be fairly mandatory.... Good thing I ally with GK
Edit: Spoiler tags, large quote box was obnoxious
