Now, I have 2 main armies right now DE, and Tau. I've played AGAINST Dark Eldar with my Tau, but not the other way around. I don't see an easy way for a basic Tau list at 1750 pts to lose to DE....

A list I chose

Commander with missiles, plasma and pen chip
Crisis team with Stims missiles and plasma,
Riptide with ... i don't even remember probably Ion...
3 broadsides with HYMP and SMS
3 teams of 5 pathfinders,
2 Fire Warrior teams
a hammerhead,
AND EVEN the Tau bomber!

His list was probably an average DE list, lots of raiders a venom one of the fliers...

So basically a run down of what happened.... I even held back because of how much Dakka I was putting out...

most of his vehicles died turn 1 and 2 leaving him to foot slog across the board, where marker lights(leaving him his cover saves because... well.... yeah) boosting my BS to further flatten his dudes..... it just seemed like NOTHING in his army was too much for even my FW's to handle... like, fighting an uphil battle... I have yet to play Tau with my DE, but I fear an easy roll over game such as that...

I guess a better post to make it relevant to general discussion... do you ever just steam roll somebody by accident?

I've only played Tau once with my DE. (Granted, I lost, but it was really close.) I think more experience on the part of your opponent might help. Both experience WITH DE, and AGAINST Tau. I can't really speak to his tactics without a more detailed report.

As to your second question, yeah. The first time I ever tried the Buffmander in a plasma dev squad, back when everyone ridiculed me and said it was a waste of points, I just steamrolled my first two opponents.

The second time I tried the Care Bear Stare list (8 GK Henchmen psykers with a jokaero) I tabled my opponent on turn 2. It was pretty grotesque.

Tau are actually a pretty easy match up for DE if you bring the right stuff. The right stuff in this case is Duel Splinter Cannon Venoms with knight shields and Duel Splinter cannon trueborn in those Venoms. Send a CC threat at them like 2 Raiders filled with Wytches, or better yet a Beastpack ( Grotesques will do too). Use the range game and collect profit

He did say he was playing Tau. The Range Game is probably going to look similar to the Lay Down and Die Game against them.

Tau does not have enough over 42" firepower to deal with 3 fully kitted out Splinter Trueborn Venoms laying back while 2 Raides and a Beastpack and god knows what else you are putting in their face rush them. It has been my experience that they will have to lay all firepower for turns 1-4 on the units rushing them, while your fire platforms (venoms) just pile on wounds. The DE player will have many a blowed up vehicle for sure, but even still is way more mobile than Tau.

You missed the night shields comments. Means your 36" guns out range their 36" guns.

It actually can be one of the harder matchups for tau since they are so dependent on 30-36" shooting, something the DE vehicles can out range and dance around. That -6" range wargear is a pain to deal with.

If you deploy second, set up in a corner. If you deploy first, setup out of LOS and consider flat out to a better shooting position.

I have yet to lose a game against Tau with my DE. I have had a couple of draws due to last turn murder of out of LOS troops by missiles and the like (HATE having to get out of transports).
Most of the games come down to taking out the long range threats and then just picking a side and peeling it back 6" at a time while shoving a beastpack + baron down their throat.

O'Vasha star and farsight bomb are biggest pains in the butt, gunlines, not so much.....except for Sky Rays, they scare me.

I just felt like everything in my army was a point click delete button, even my bomber dropped his flier(truthfully it's gun drone ARE powerful so not much of a surprise) but your comments make me feel better about having to play tau with my DE soon. Truthfully I've invested so much into my Tau, just to be disappointed that I play better with Dark Eldar LOL.... Also, I'm often asked to play the newer players at the store or people trying a new army, where I will go light on someone (I even once took 0 riptides ) and even play lightly and still manage to table them... Makes me sad for the people who immediately pick up a new army after each crushing defeat

I know the feeling. I run a Dal'Yth tau horde with an ethereal. Lots of sniping, marking, and bullets everywhere.

No riptides. Had a first turn tabling of drop pod wolves and it also tabled an Iyanden list. Even thunder fires have problems because of sniping.

Finally got to run the list I've wanted since 4e, and I will like TFG every time I play it.

My other army? World Eaters assault list that looks more like an Iron Warriors siege list as I desperately try to make it work... So I either table, or get tabled. 6e was a let down for me...

most everything is a point click delete button against DE. They are definitly the least durable army out there. Tau might be better at it than some, but a genearlist Tau list isn't that much of a threat for DE as things like riptides are overkill against most DE troops.

Ooo str9 AP2 blast!!! Str6 AP5 is just as good against most DE.

Nightshields irritate a lot! use them.
Ravagers eat Tau vehicles, Venoms eat uncovered infantry, Riptides (especially with that HQ giving +1 to poison; Siliscus?) and drones. Trueborn to get Crisis/Broadsides

But you'll need a LOT of dakka. Friend runs a list capable of shooting 150+ poison stuff per round. Alling with eldar for psychic help is good as well.
