Now, 7th edition has been announced and they have three books. so, do you prefer the previous editions which have only one big book or 7th edition which has three books.

I like the "rules only" approach but would like the option to buy it without having to buy the others as well.

Me too.

As I had the 3rd, 4th and 5th edition BBBs, I really did not need to see the same recycled fluff and pics a fourth time so I got the softback of the 6th edition. It was also much cheaper and handier.

I would like just the rulebook out of the 7th edition and not the fluff and art books.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

None of them...how about two seperate releases: 1. BRB for newbies or collectors and fluff lovers or even what they have now and 2. a seperate mini rulebook release, you don't need to wait x months for in the boxed starter set.

As much as I bad mouth GW, warrented or not. I would have pre-ordered the seperate release of a mini hardback like the made for 6th edition.

I would have liked this option too. Perhaps the rules book will be available on ebay by itself in the not too distant future.

It's a step in the right direction IMO. GW was never going to give up the chance to charge you £50 for it, which meant filling in content with fluff, pictures and modelling instructions, but now at least you can just take the single book with you for games and it's only a large weight instead of a massive weight.

I would have loved an individual Rulebook release (with A4 and A5 options), but they'd have lost money that way.

They are not available separately. You are expected to buy the set of three for £60 and throw away the ones you don't want.

Hopefully there may be a lot of people who want the art and fluff books but not the rules, so they will put the rulebook on to eBay.

I like the idea of having a rules-only hardback.

As others have said, it would have been nicer to have the options for (a) the rulebook by itself, (b) Day 1 availability of a softback.

If the Dark Vengeance was released this weekend with a mini 7th rulebook I would have bought that again (for a third time) no problems

Will probably play Bolt Action until I can get the mini rule book

It will most certainly be compatble with 7th...whether or not it will be compatible with 6th is anyone's guess.

So everyone needs to go to a GW store or call mail order and tell them you want to buy JUST the rulebook. When they tell you it's not available that way, say "OH, sorry then, I'll go spend my money elsewhere." Maybe if enough people do it, they'll get the hint. But I doubt it.

You can buy the book from an indie retailer or Ebay or whatever so you have one, but GW makes far less profit on it that way.

A solo rulebook will probably come out with the starter, they probably learned people just buy the book of starters that got the big ones.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

New ork codex is early/mid next month and tbh I doubt they will make it 6th edition compatible, since it will of been written a long with the 7th edition rule book, but we will find out.

Three, sweet emperor's panties three. I'm not actually all that miffed that you have to buy the rules+pictures+fluff. You've always had to do that anyways, it's just people's expectations that are different this time. I'm glad that I won't have to lug around a forty pound rulebook anymore, and have to skip over fluff to get to psychic powers, etc.

And also, on the gw webite, the visions of the dark somthing already cost 45 euros.

$85 is what it cost for me when I pre-ordered it on the GW site.

One shiny fluffy book and one portable small Dark Vengeance rulebook would work best for me......

Even though I preordered the three book set, once the next box set releases, I'll hit ebay for a "cut down" softcover - something that is portable and (hopefully) small enough for my gaming bag/case.

I have a feeling that in a few months all three will be available for purchase separately. What a great way to create a new revenue stream without putting in any work whatsoever.

The thing that will give this away would be the addition of a SKU or barcode on the back of the separate books themselves. If anyone knows someone that has the books already they should ask if the barcode is on the back of the individual books.

I don't know... what's more likely, that GW will offer a slightly more convenient version of the same product at a slight markup, or that GW will continue to cannibalize its own sales by releasing cheaper copies of just one part of the rulebook? Is it more likely they'll split the books up, or to just stop offering mini-rulebooks?

My money would be on the way that GW makes more money.

I like this version. I don't need to haul around fluff and model photos, only rules.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

While a mini-rulebook available right away would be nice, that's never been an option before, so there's no reason to expect one now. You've always had to pay a premium for rules, fluff, and pictures.
With that in mind, having three separate books is awesome. Now, I can have all the other stuff without having to carry all 450+ pages around in a giant book.

Also, as a sidenote, the new rulebook has about 50 pages more than the last one. That isn't a massive increase, but it is about a 10% increase in size. So, that's nice.

Would I prefer to be able to buy one smaller book for just the rules at a cheaper price? Sure. Failing that (since I'm an impatient bastard ), I am digging the fact that I don't need to cart around a huge hardcover tome with me to gaming night.
