So I am a bit confused by which powers are open to Grey Knights, the ones from their codex, the ones from the new rulebook or both? They have access to the Sanctic powers which are a lot of powers in their codex but would have to roll on them for every unit yet it says in the new rulebook that if you have psychic powers within the codex that you can follow those instead so for example if I want to just to keep Hammerhand on my GKSS which according to the codex they already have that I just keep it instead of rolling on the Sanctic table? But if I wanted to, drop Hammerhand and take a roll on the table to see what I get (which is a 1/6 chance of just getting Hammerhand anyway)?

I think you have to use codex powers.

ebook pg 390 "In some army list entries a Psyker will have one or more powers listed...These Psykers always start the game with these powers. Otherwise a psyker generates random psychic powers from amongst the disciplines known to him".

So, you can't substitute rulebook powers for army list powers unless there is a FAQ which allows the model to do that (so Coteaz as an example).

That is the exact ruling I am talking about. They make this new discipline that encoporates the psychic powers of the Grey Knights in it with Sanctic but say that if they come with psychic powers from the codex, use those instead. Every single Grey Knight unit is already given psychic powers with some those not given in the new rulebook, for example the Purgation Squad power and the psychic powers of vehicles so it is nice they get to keep those. This also means that a Grey Knight Librarian is still able to pick and choose. I am just wondering what the point of giving the Grey Knights the only way to safely manifest Sanctic powers without causing Perils every other roll if they can't actually take the discipline because of their powers have already been detailed.

We desperately need an errata for the GK codex. Otherwise this is very confusing.
Hammerhand, for example confers a S +1 in the codex and does not have a wrap charge requirement. Which are we supposed to use?

The librarian can buy additional powers, some of which are also listed in 7th brb, but are different. Others aren't. None listed in codex have a warp charge requirement.

Now I don't know where I live or what my name is.

I know right?! In the Psyker Mastery Level ruling in the GK Codex it says that for each Mastery level a unit has, they can manifest one psychic power from the Codex roughly meaning that each power in the GK codex is one warp charge.

It still begs the question, do we use the Hammerhand with only S +1 in the Codex or the updated Hammerhand that is in 7th with S +2. Then Sanctuary has been majorly reworked. In the Codex it just makes terrain within 12" difficult and dangerous but in 7th it now gives you 1++ to be added your invulnerable save. Vortex of Doom functions significantly differently and Gate of Infinity has been combined with The Summoning from the GK Codex.

I wouldn't mind if my GKSS just kept Hammerhand either from either source, albeit the +2 bonus means even GK that don't have a hammer can take on up to Armor 12 on Vehicles so it would be a significant difference to using either. I would sometimes like the option to take a roll on the Sanctic table though for some of my units because they could be used in different ways like if Mordrak and his Ghost Knights got the new Sanctuary means they have a 4++ or being able to deliver the new Vortex of Doom in the enemies backyard with the Alpha Strike of Mordrak.

Just would like some clarity here.

Has anyone come to any conclusions on this? I really want to get my GK on the tabletop for 7th ASAP, but I'm not sure just what powers should be generated. Bummer.

I am on my way now to play my first game of 7th with a veteran player ( guy's been playing since rogue trader so he has a good idea of whats going on) so im hoping between him and a handful of spectators we can hash out the inconsistencies in the rules. I'll post up how it went and what we concluded from the actual game play. Going to be a small 1250 game just to get a feel. I have my GK and he's bringing daemons (guess he wants to use the new powers or whatever) so i'll let you know how it goes.

This is why they needed to do day 1 errata on all their codices like they did last edition. Grey Knights, Blood Angels, Orks, Tyranids, and Space Wolves all need instructions on how to play them or you can't play their psykers. Mephiston is terribly overpriced now for what he does and an iconic ability of the Nids does nothing.

On topic, for now I would assume all codex Grey Knights powers are treated as WC 1 but they don't get to roll on any book lores yet. This is just to play them at all until they get fixed.

This topic has been discussed at my game store and we haven't gotten anywhere on it. It brings many other questions (like the aegis special rule).

I make bad decisions and think they are good.

Yeah, too many armies have confusing or unplayable rules and abilities right now. They really need addressed.

which is every psyker in the GK codex, except GK psykers are called out by name as being able to generate on the santic power list. no subbing anymore, it seems like non tree powers like force, and GK codex powers, are in addition to list powers.

but yeah.. wtf confusing as heck...

I hope they get the FAQ in gear ASAP...

This is how we're playing it at our flgs, but yeah definitely errata is needed.

The only psykers about to roll on the sanctic tree are a librarian and Coteaz.

Any model with hammerhand gets the new version, but it costs charges.

We're not allowing the old book powers where RAI seems to indicate they have been ported to the sanctic tree.

We have no fething idea what to do about the aegis. I get the distinct feeling we'll see it give units adamantium will, but need errate on that.

Well, until an errata comes out for the codex, GK are stuck with their 6th edition powers.

Using their codex powers is pretty much where a bunch of game to conclude at my flgg as well. It just makes it to have less confusion but yeah, why call GK for Sanctic powers but not let them take the powers. Oh well, hopefully FAQ comes out quickly so that GK can come into their own for 7th.

I want to know how Aegis is now changed as well since in the Codex is lowers the leadership of a roll. To liken this to the new addition that means -1 to the Psychic Test when it targets a unit with Aegis but that means it would take a 5+ to generate WC when you target a GK which almost seems a bit OP.
