Which occurs first, Jink or the use of Markerlights?

In other words, do I have to declare I'm using 2 Markerlights to ignore cover before he declares jink (seems dumb)? Or can you do it after?

I'll probably play it jink first, but want to know what the consensus is.

You declare that you are going to shoot.

Opponent declares whether he is jinking or not.

You roll your To Hit for marker lights.

Well, jink happens after you are targeted, and markerlights are used before you actually shoot. And you don't actually shoot until the Select A Weapon step.
So,
1. Declare target
2. Jink
3. Use markerlights
4. Choose weapon to shoot

Are there new phases like declare target and before shooting? I don't have the new rule book, wasn't trying to be sarcastic or anything.

If there are no new phases, shouldn't it be player whose turn it is decide?

@milkboy:
The jink rule is perfectly clear that you declare whether the unit is jinking BEFORE any to-hit rolls are made. Markerlights require a to hit roll, so jink has to be declared before that.

The OP isn't talking about shooting markerlights, he is talking about using markerlight tokens for Ignores Cover.

Ahh.. I misunderstood.

So the full order would be:

Unit 1:
1. Declare Target
2. Opp decides to Jink or not.
3. Marker Lights "shot"
4. etc.

Unit 2:
1. Declare Target
2. If Opponent did not earlier jink, then they have another opportunity to declare they are jinking.
3. Unit decides to use marker light tokens for Ignore Cover.
4. etc..

So, RAW, no you don't have to tell your opponent that you are using the tokens.

Taking a step back to the misunderstanding. why on earth would you want to declare a jink against a markerlight shot. You cant take a cover save against it. Or has something changed in this ed?

Cheers

Andrew

I think you are still misunderstanding. No one is going to jink vs markerlight shots.

The question was about using markerlight tokens to shoot at a unit, not about shooting markerlights to generate tokens.

I agree. When you decide to use MLs, the decision to shoot at the unit was already made, so the owner had to declare Jink before any ML use.

I wasn't saying you *would* jink from them. Just that in the order of things that's where the decision is made.
