Just started reading through the 7ed BRB...
Check out the weapon skill vs. weapon skill chart in the assault section.
I decided to take a close look to see if anything changed, apparently it did.
It's identical save for one thing. The normal rule of, "need a 5+ to hit if opponent's WS is more than double yours" apparently doesn't apply if you have WS 2 and the enemy has WS 4...weird...

I'm not sure what chart you're looking at, but mine says that WS2 needs a 4+ to hit WS4, which is exactly how it was in 6th.

In my digital edition, 2 vs 4 is 5+ lol my tau are worse :(

But the rule under Roll To Hit says that WS equal to or up to double is a 4+

The melee hit table makes the WS stat nearly worthless...

There should be greater advantages to greater skill disparities.

My WS 5 Trygon hits WS 4 Space Marines on a 3+, and they hit it on a 4+

MY WS 8 Hive Tyrant hits WS 4 Space Marines on a 3+, and they hit it on a 4+

... I don't understand the melee to hit chart at all...

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

I always looked at the chart as not a good representation of one on one close combat. However it makes sense for a swirling melee, where it would be easy to get hit by someone who got a lucky hit or represent getting stabbed in the back. No matter how good a single swordsman is, his individual skill is only worth so much in a melee. Thats how I rationalized it, not saying that its right.

But surely a Guardsman would be much less likely to get a lucky hit on a Genestealer than a Space Marine Chapter Master, yet they're both hitting on a 4+.

It becomes even more ridiculous when you compare it to the BS chart. A BS 10 model is such a superb marksman that they will hit their target 97.22% of the time. Meanwhile, a WS 10 model is such a masterful close combat expert that it can hit a Fire Warrior 66.67% of the time.

If a tau player is forced into cc his unit is dead anyway. A ws beef is simply dirt into the obvious flaw you already have.

admech army: 600pts
ravenguard: 565 pts
