Now with a drop in the level 2 psyker upgrade, and the cheapness of a wolf tail talisman, and the change to runic weapons there is a decent chance that a rune priest targeted by a psychic attack gets a 3+ deny the witch (wolf tail tally giving 5+, then modify for runic weapon, and being level 2) against powers being cast by a lv 1. My question dakka community is: do you think this is better than the old 4+ deny everything? Also Njal would have a 2+ deny, does that make him more worth while?

Wolf tail is seperate from deny the witch.

Wolf tail cancels a power on a 5+

It is something entirely different from a deny the witch roll which IS modified by being a psyker, higher mastery level & runic weapon.

This was clarified a lot better in the old FAQ when the question was raised of "Can I use runic weapon to cancel, then wolf tail talisman, THEN deny the witch?"
The answer was "No. You may only attempt to cancel the power with one of these." or words to that effect.

A Normal Rune preist Will get +1 for being psyker, +1 for Runic weapon and possibly +1 for higher mastery level. Meaning he would DtW on Maledictions & Witchfires on a 4+ or 3+ depending on ML of caster.

Njal 3+ & 2+.

Note they wouldnt get any of these benefits if trying to DtW blessings/conjurings.

I can't recall if they have Psy hoods or not either. Something niggling in the back of my head says they don't but can't think why. If they do this would allow nearby units to DtW at their rolls instead too.

But back to original question. Wolf Tail Talisman is seperate from a Deny the Witch roll. And you can only attempt to cancel a power via one means or another. What a wolf tail talisman can do for those 5 points is make a normal unit (that can equip it) have an otherwise unattainable boost to their DtW rolls.

Edit: The added bonus of wolftail talisman would mean you get an opportunity to cancel a power cast at you even though you have NO warp dice left. e.g. The enemy casts Invisibility and you opt to throw ALL your warp dice in attempt to stop it. He then casts witchfires at you. Although you have no warp charge dice left to deny the wolf tail talisman would still cancel the effect on a 5+

So i had the right math but for the wrong reasons haha. But for 5 points the tail is good to have as a fall back. Thanks!

Yes it does, but that's where wolf talisman comes in, it lets you deny on a 5+ for no WC cost.

Not saying you can, just saying there is no longer anything saying you can't. So I would find the issue debatable, at least.

This is entirely true. i don't have the BRB at hand to see if there is anything saying you're only allowed one attempt of any method to cancel a power. So right now strictly RAW you can attempt to deny a witchfire/malediction cast on you AND nulify it with a wolf tail talisman.

Yup, strict RAW, and I'd say reasonable intent, is that we can now DTW and use a talisman as a fall back if that fails.

Of course this is unless there is something in BRB restricting you to only attempt to cancel a power once. Not got it at hand to check. Will look up later if no one beats me to it.
