After reading the Imperial Knights codex, the 7th edition BRB and the new FAQ I want to make sure I got all this right

1. Knights now score and contest regardless of being in primary or in detachment, in fact there is no more primary ...knights just form a detachment of between 1-3 and you can have multiple detachments etc. They can run as allies or as your only army.
2. Knights DO NOT have to choose a warlord if there are other detachments . Its an option, or they can nominate a warlord even if there are other detachments
3. If there are at least 3 knights in detachment and you choose to have a warlord, the warlord is automatically a SENESCHAL rank. This gives the warlord knight +1 to BS and WS and an invul save screen of 3+ instead of 4+the warlord knight also gets to roll on their traits table in the codex.

4: the knight warlord is a character. (and thus can issue challanges)

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

The idea of a cultist champion being forced to challenge a fifty foot killbot with a sword the size of a bus tickles my fancy.

Well, add the fact that with new D weapon nerf and the AP nerf Knights are much more survivable. That's pretty fine buff given the fact that Knights were fairly 'meh' as they died too easily for their price.

I'm looking eagerly at the new forgeworld knights so I can houserule them into the Knight codex.

I'm conflicted on whether I should buy the models or not.

I like forgeworld and find their rules much more reasonable, I dislike the company it's attached to with all my heart.

Point 3 is a little. It's not 3 Knights in one detachment, its 3 Knights or more in the army. You can have 3 or more detachments of 1-3 Knights each, but as long as you have at least 3 Knights, one becomes a Seneschal.

Also, if your army has no characters, but at least one Knight, the Knight is automatically the Warlord. (Possible only in a Nid Battleforged, or any unbound army that lacks character, pun intended).

and the smash nerf. AV13 is pretty tough against a lot of MCs that lack native str10

Hmm.. Non-eternal T3 model in close combat with AV13-sporting 3 SD attacks + stomps? Not really sold on that. One failed save and you're IDed.

If the Sword is AP1 then he autopasses saves against it.

Which is hilarious.

Ap 2. But it's the stomps stacks that are going to really hurt!

If you're running your Knight correctly, his death became a weapon of its own. I run an Errant and just run it right at my opponent's army. Either it lives and wrecks face, or he kills it and it blows up in the middle of his army. Usually a little of both. The melta cannon really helps take care of threats to the Knight.

Get a chapter master in combat with it with shield eternal and thunder hammer. I think he could do some damage.

I think after the nerf to vector strike being only 1 attack now against ground targets and the vehicle damage chart being in the knights favor, KNights will be a good counter to a daemon summoning army.

Depending on the Knight's mood it might be more "VROOM-VROOM".

Well, 33% of the CM's attacks will miss, and at S8, you'll need 5s to glance (as removing hull points is essentially the only way to kill a Superheavy) so that's 33% of hits doing damage.

In return, you'll be hit with a Destroyer weapon that could totally disregard your ++ save, and even if it doesn't, do multiple wounds with any hit that does get through, EW or no, plus stomps.

Yes, a CM could do damage, even kill an IK, but he will need the odds to run in his favour somewhat.

With the changes to D weapons, and superheavy rules in the BRB now, there really is no real need for the Knight codex anymore, just the BRB and WD #4 should cover it. One less book to carry around. Or just print the single page of stats from the Knight book and stick it in the back of the BRB.

Well not knowing much about the knights and what it does after you kill it this happen:

playing a 4500pt list my CSM vs his SM with 3 imperial Knights. I got one down to 1 HP and I had Kharn and a term squad next to it and was like well F it I might as well just cc and kill it. Person I was
playing said it will blow up. I was like okay and... He said okay go ahead... After I cc'ed him and took the last HP he does okay now the magic happens! I was like umm okay... Then he tells me what it does when you kill it and how powerful the explosion is.. I was Like MY GOD! of course he rolls a 6 so it's the biggest damage you can do. So it kills off my squad of zerkers and Kharn then my terms squad that was 3 in away. So let me tell you that I learned the hard way what this damn thing can do. I was so pissed off that he didn't tell me that when it blows up it does that damage instead of the what Str 4 when other things blow up but it was my fault for not reading or knowing that.

More to the story next game we play he only has 1 IK and I got the Lord of skulls now!
Was thinking the LOS would be a bad ass in CC vs the IK... Well not so much as I found that he charged me and he has i5 and im i4.. He hits 2 of his att first one I saved but the second one he rolls a 6 and rolls another 6
for his +d6 roll... So I was killed before my LOS did anything. I shot 1 round of shots into the knight but he saved it with his 4+i then did NOTHING in CC. Man I have got my butt handed to me last 2 times playing him with the
IK. Games have not even come close yet in 7th ed playing csm vs sm.

It's a dick move for him to not have told you that it's an apocalyptic blast when it dies. It isn't honestly your job to know every unit in every codex. Though, all super heavies now blow up like that, so it's a good rule to remember here on out. I had someone who didn't tell me what the Knights could do, even after I blatantly asked what it had for gear, and what that gear could do, since I had never faced one before, and didn't own the codex, nor planned on it since I play exclusively Orks. The douche left out a bunch of info until after I initiated combat, THEN proceeded to enlighten me. donkey-caves like that make me want to punch throats.
