Started building my newest gaming table.
Needed a break from painting and the new table has been constantly on my mind.
Plans for the table are as follows:
10 - RoBB's with a 8" space which will be river of sorts or at least some kind of impassable obstacle unless you attempt to cross with a skimmer or flier.
There will be a bridge over part of it where you could cut off your opponent or at least hold the bridge to slow him down.
The table base is 3' high (the beginnings are pictured)
Table consists of base which is 8' x 3' x 11"
Second shelf is 14" higher but also only 9" wide.
The third and final shelf will be 12" off the second shelf but will be the original 11" wide.
Then there will be 3" cross braces evenly spaced which will support the bottom of the actual table.
Final dimension for the table will be 4' x 10' 8".
There will be a 3" routed dice edge all around the table with a countersunk LED rope light all the way around the table.
The dice edge will be pine (like everything else) but will have a carbon fiber overlay to give it the "high tech" look.
The rest of the table's base will be black lacquered and sealed with a semigloss clear.

The "plans" for the table are going to be a post apocalypse style city fight style with most buildings and structures having LED lighting.
I am hoping to include my Templars Keep I built a few years ago for a fund raising tournament. The keep is roughly 2' x 2' x 39" tall... some who know me have seen it or at least pictures of it.
So far I have accumulated for terrain:
6-Skyshield landing pads (for bridges)
2-Fortress of Redemptions (2 more needed)
4-Imperial Strong points
6-Shrine of the Aquila's (might need a few more)
9-Imperial Sectors
4-Manufactorums
Bunches of bits and pieces..

Looks very impressive so far and I love the idea of having LED lights in the table. I looks like it'll be kinda heavy and hard to move around thought, but maybe that wont be a problem?

Looks like one hell of a project. I'm looking forward to seeing the end result. One suggestion though, are you planning to cover the horizontal braces? If not, you could extend them into shelves, places to hold extra models, rulebooks and even your beer at times.

The horizontal braces are for the actual gaming table, those are the supports.
I left a space to "stash" stuff underneath and of course the base has shelves all around.
Still some work to do and I have to add the pullout draw for the LED controls.
Because I have to fit this through a door in the basement I (actually my daughter) pointed out the door is 36" but just the base is 35 1/2" so the table will come apart at the cross braces,
I will do all the final assembly once the table is in place in the gaming room.

Looking forward to seeing this finished, I'd love to own a table of this scale, so many opportunities to play different sorts of games with so many variations. May I suggest two bridges for the gap though? It will make it a little more flexible, especially if there are low numbers of skimmers/flyers

Looks great. I'm really liking the rounded off corners on the side and the shelves under neath.

Please don't make the terrain stagnant(glued or bolted in to place). You will get used to how the board plays and it will get boring fast. Being able to move terrain around will help make the games more interesting. I know you will be adding lights but there are ways of adding them so the terrain can still be moved.

Keep up the good work.

Very much this. If you're leaving a gap for some kind of void (water, crevasse, etc) it's best to leave its position changeable. Make a strip of terrain that fits, but leave all the tiles and said strip free to be removed and repositioned as you want for each game. Especially with the hill on the RoBB. Also that way if you ever feel the urge to grab a Forgeworld tile for variety, you can just paint it the same and place it anywhere.

Having a stagnant table setup will end in boredom. And really defeats the purpose of the RoBB.

Damn that is one good looking table you're putting together there. I'm very impressed by (and jealous of) your woodworking skills - but I do have to echo the concern of others here. You really want to keep the table options modular since it's going to be a board/table that you and friends play over for presumably years to come, rather than a static table for a convention/ scenario/ demo games.

These are the IKEA cases. they have doors.
Been a few posts about them on Dakka.... they are rather inexpensive at $65 but the shipping for me would have been over $200 a good friend of mine picked them up for me.
