(Well, it's really quite nice right now out there, but I am from North Europe, Finland anyway.)

So hello everyone. I figured I would get started by introducing myself before I start harassing you in various threads!

I come in peace, trying to learn proper cheese tactics to amuse myself / irritate my friend in WH40k. I am new to the game, I got the starter kit late last year and have only managed to play half a dozen or so games so far. I let the sales guy talk me into getting the kit and since I do not care much for CSM, I tried to talk myself into liking Dark Angels, instead and gave the CSM to a friend of mine. He's happy enough with them, but I'm not! Turns out spessmehreens are not my thing, and I prefer something more "real army like", so I just started collecting Astra Militarum.

The army thing may be linked to the fact that I am also active army reserve NCO with a fascination for infantry tactics. I am also just about to become a dad (literally any day now), so any choice in armies I make is purely cosmetic - it's not like I'm going to have time to play any of them for a while!

With WH40k I cannot really say much about what sort of a gamer I am, but in other games I do have a tendency to min/max. Still, flavor is important also, and I really like to come up with paint schemes and even some background stories for the units. I may not share them with anyone, but I tend to have a story for just about every grunt in my list.

Other interests include mountaineering, martial arts (kb, bjj), hiking and motorcycles (currently dreaming of a Harley). But since the kid's about to enter center stage, and I'm also renovating a house which was built in the middle of the winter war with surplus materials (it turns out), I have to pick my battles and invest my time & money wisely = do the smart/boring thing.

Enough of the rant, if you made it this far you clearly need better things to do with your life! But still - thanks for reading and hello once again!

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

Oh, I like you...if you ever find yourself kicking around the States looking for a game, look me up. (You know, specifically around the Illinois-adjacent states. )

Sigh. Me too. I love all my little guys (I put little details on the identical ones so that I can tell them apart. No one else knows about the visual clues, but I'll know they're there.)

I've also got a kid and a new house to be renovated. (Right after I just finished renovating THIS bugger...) Couple of questions though. I think there's a culture gap that I may have tripped over. What are 'kb' and 'bjj?' I assure you, the acronyms I'm coming up with while left to my own devices are less than flattering. Also, what is 'the winter war?' (The Cold War, I'm guessing?)

In any event, long story short, welcome to Dakka Dakka!

Thank you, Sir!

Now that you said it, I sort of understand what you mean with the acronyms The first one is kickboxing and the second one is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I cannot say I'm very good at either, but I still enjoy the occasional sparring session now and again.

And Winter War was a hundred days of warfare between Finland and the Soviets during the early part of WW2. I'd be glad to tell you all about it if I find myself near Illinois!

Wow you sure sound like you have more time than me and I've got a kid too! I've had to give up other hobbies mostly and these days, my hobby is pretty much painting.

And yeah, I understand about the budget. I think my baby easily takes up more cost than me and my wife put together!

And I hope you grow to like Dark Angels. I believe in collecting an army that has fluff which I like as well, which is also restricting as I seem to have liked a most expensive army to collect. (Sisters) Ah well, what to do? When the it bites, the addiction doesn't let go.

And before I forget, welcome!!
