Commisar Yarrick
Not only is he a certified manly man (loses an arm so he takes a warboss' claw? Sure why not.) but he is a tactical genius and inspires such loyalty and vigor in his troops that he, rules wise, doesn't need to execute his soldiers to motivate them. Though I'm sure he has no qualms about ousting corrupt officers like that one Hivemaster. And the icing on the cake, after getting captured by Thraka he is realeased becasue Thraka knows he's the only 'uman who can give him a god and propa scrap.

Seconded. Zandrekh is my favourite too. Together with his ever-faithful Obyron.

I still remember actually laughing out loud when they ran over a lictor and then were instantly identified by Cain for it.

For me it is Loken. The first 2 books of the Horus Heresy were the best immersion into the feel of the universe. Loken felt like the Everyman who could do epic things when one knows they have right on their side! Also Vulkan and Fulgrim. Both intriguing in their own ways.

I started off really liking Loken, and Torgaddon as well, but I was so frustrated with him as the series went on it was unbelievable. Obviously we know the ending before hand, but how many times did he notice something was wrong and do nothing, tell no one?

If you are going to be a bad-ass killing machine, wear a helmet and eschew anything that screams, "Snipers, please shoot me!"

Seriously, looking at most of the IC models in 40k, it is amazing how any of them avoided a death by sniper fire.

As we know, snipers aren't really all that lethal in 40k (unless the narrative requires them to be)

I've got a squadron of sniper drones that beg to differ. 48" rapid fire and jetpacks, oh my!

I agree with Tyberos being great, he's kinda what most chapter masters should look like, with no daft or movement-hindering bling and everything looking sleek and sexy.

Bjorn the Fell handed.

This guy was one of the primarchs chosen, left behind only to tell the tales and lead the space wolves to glory. His time as the great wolf was a golden area for the space wolves. Under his lead the great hunts began. Each great hunt explored and conquered worlds that the imperium did not even know about.

Bjorn is a mighty hero, plus he is a dreadnought, and I think dreadnoughts are freaking AWESOME.

Kharn is my favorite, followed by Ahriman. Kharn was always my favorite but Betrayer did an awesome job of fleshing him out. He could've easily led the World Eaters during the HH (and would've done a better job than Angron).
These two guys are probably two of the most intelligent space marines out there.

I had forgotten about Garvi and Nathan! Good men, the both of them. In addition to those two, I'd also like to nominate Istvan Fallen Huron Fal and Sergeant Temeter of the Emperor's Children. Without Temeter, the Loyalists on Istvan would've surely been wiped out without Angron and Lucius there to bleed them from within and without.

Let's not also forget about poor Torgaddon who, in the most amazingly sad piece of writing ever, was beheaded by Abbadon... um....spoiler? That was almost as sad as little Aximand lamenting under Abbadons rule for his roll in killing Torgaddon and (attempt on) Garviel.

I love what Abbadon has to say about Kharn.

"Only a fool would estimate Kharn to be nothing less than a savage, mindless butcher. In fact, there is a sinister intelligence behind his helm." <-- Pretty much says it all. Blood for the Blood God!...but without the obtuse insanity. XD

Can't really choose one, but if I had to it'd be Talos, the Soul Hunter. This guys knows how far fallen his legion is, he knows how bad his brothers are, and most of all knows how what he's become. His sacrifice to save is serfs sorta follows what Curze has been saying all along: "Death is nothing compared to vindication." He did 1 good thing in his life, and (quite literally) ended it with a bang.

Not just in Betrayer but through out the entire Horus Heresy. You get the distinct impression if Angron wasn't a Primarch, that Kharn would've taken his post long ago. It also says something that it seems after the Battle of the Imperial Palace, that Khorne saw a dead Kharn and grew a heart small enough to bring his wretched existence back to life. While everyone else is screaming "Blood for the Blood God!" Kharn sits quietly in the back of the room going "Yes, but how?"

Ahriman is the baddest man ever to don power armor. So awesome is he and his Rubricae that he essentially IS the Thousand Sons now, and that's no exaggeration. Read Ahriman : Exile for more insight on that and how he got his armor in the first place.

Dude went from exile to Warlord with the flick of his wrist, and then went from Warlord to Tyrant with a breath to Amon, then goes from Tyrant to Demi-God in his pursuit to free the Thousand Sons and undo the Great Conspiracies of Tzeentch.

Yeah, the Imperium is scared of Chaos and fights them with sticks and stones. The Chaos Space Marines are rebelling as effectively as spoiled children. And here is Ahriman literally taming the cosmos with a whisper and telling the Gods "Feth off! This is mans work now!"

Like a boss. XD

Just finished reading Ahriman: Exile last week, and I was very impressed. Not only is he an absolute badass, and I give credit to the author for his excellent descriptions of the sorcerous powers at Ahriman's disposal, but he is also the most relatable Chaos character I have read yet. Most of them just want to kick puppies all day from what I've seen in other BL novels.

I can't say I know much about the fluff in 40k in general, but a few of my favourites would have to be Grimaldus, after reading the book about Armageddon (not sure what it's called, potentially Armageddon) Typhus, simply because he's a walking disease, and Cypher, due to the slight mystery!!

I always try to keep this up to date with what projects I'm working on... but they just keep piling up

The thing with Typhus though is he is the most butt-hurt of the Chaos Scions. Even when he was just Typhon, he was always seemed to have this enormous chip on his shoulder.

If I had to classify him, I'd call him the emo kid of the cult leaders. And he was originally one of my favorites, as was the Terminus Est. After reading the first couple books in the Horus Heresy though, especially Flight of the Eisenstein and the back and forth between Grulghor and Typhon/Typhus, I was going "Ok kids! Turn that frown, upside down now!" And then Grulghor turned into a giggly Plague Marine and I thought, "Well that's one of them! Now it's Typhus' turn." lol
