sure go for it. Just remember that Calgar has to use ultramarine CT and Vulkan has to use sally CT and if you ally and put both in one army, you should have a way of differenciating them from one another.

I use a lot of SC models, because they look cool but I rarely use the rules, they are just similarly equiped characters.

As long as you respect WYSISYG, meaning gear representation has to remain constant (meaning the same gun has to represent bolters on all models sporting them) and models represent the gear they carry. You should not get any crap for choosing colors and heraldry, even if you mix heraldry and colors from existing chapters.

Looks good, however just an fyi. White, Black and Yellow are one of if not THE hardest colours to paint good.

I know a guy who primed his whole army black and then put a red dot and a yellow dot for eyes and a red and yellow x on vehicles and nobody gave him crap. Said he hated painting with a passion but loved to play. Definitely caught hell from TO's everywhere though.

As to the op? Do it to it bro! WYSIWYG is important for tourney play but most guys will let you slide if you are close. It's your 40K...so long as you aren't using a CD to represent a drop pod you'll be fine

I think I would put special characters with different Chapter Tactics in different colors, just so as not to get accused of trying to confuse my opponent.

But yeah, you should be good.

That's going to be a challenging color scheme to paint (the colors you've selected require a high degree of skill to apply well) but will look amazing when you get it perfected! Can't wait to see it!

If you don't mind the assignment being permanent I would suggest a blue shoulder pad the the Ultramarine detatchment and a green one for the Salamander

I was thinking of giving them a blue glaze for ultramarines, green for sallys and yellow for fists

White is not difficult at all. I just spray mine white and it is pretty much gravy.
