Hi, my name is Steelmage99, and I am an X-aholic.
This makes me feel a little better. Or maybe under prepared? I'm three weeks in with:
5x TIE Fighter
1x TIE Interceptor
1X Firespray
2x X-Wing
1x B-Wing
EDIT:
And after this thread, I went out today and got a Y-Wing and TIE Advanced!

Not to derail here, but I have a question about those cases! Thanks to some help from MT11, I've started my journey into this game!
How many ships will each of those cases hold? What size ships will it hold? I appreciate any intel!

You can get a whole range of custom foam trays to match your fleet. The most they will hold is 40 standard fighters, but you can mix and match trays to suit your needs.
Here are some, but you can see them all on their website (kr multicase)
Automatically Appended Next Post: The transfers are vinyl decals. A guy on ebay sells them quite cheap. I was ten quid to do both cases front, back and sides. They seem like they'll take a kicking too.

I really like those KR cases, so far from what I've seen.
I like some of the home brew cases I've seen, but KR seems the best imho.

The big advantage I think they have is that all the small ships are stored fully assembled. I've now started storing the relevant movement dial and id tokens in the same slot too, so setting up for a game takes seconds. Seems more sensible than constructing and deconstructing them every time you want to play. With two cases, and the list I stated earlier in the thread, I still have room for the wave 4 and rebel aces stuff. Just need a third for the huge ships.

That's my biggest complaint about the other storage systems I've seen. I love the idea of having the tokens with the assembled ships!
Guess I'll be ordering a KR case or 2.....

I full admit that I have no right to question people's collections given just how much 40K stuff I have, but from all I know about this game I find it strange that people own so many duplicate items. I mean, most games seem to have a total of 6-8 units per side. Why would you need more than 1 Lambda? Is there ever a point where you'll field 11 X-Wings? 6 TIE Advanced's?
Just seems odd to me.

I only have a small collection, but here is my take on that. It's a couple of factors: 1) Playing multiple games: If you have a couple of friends it would let you share. 2) Playing Epic games: There are now an "official" ruleset that lets you play games with up to 12 of the small ships at a time. 3) I'm guessing one of the more frequent reasons: Each individual ship comes with a small selection of upgrade cards, but these cards can be used on many different ships. So if you like a particular upgrade you will need to purchase multiples of the same ships so that can place them on the different ships that you are actually playing with. 4) Probably the least frequent reason: You are crazy like MajorTom. It's not enough to just put down an X-Wing and say that he is Luke Skywalker. You need the exact X-Wing for each possible pilot because when Luke Skywalker is on the board he is flying in Luke Skywalker's X-Wing!

Epic rules let you fly up to 12 of each type of ship. Also, even in a standard game, you can fly usually at least 4 of a given type. 4 lamdas is a thing I've seen. It's actually the list with the most hull and shields available.
Also, just because. :p

It's even simpler than that. If you want to field every possible list, then you need a certain amount of each ship minimum. 5 YTs. 4 Xwing. 8 Tie. 2 Falcon. 3 e-wing yadayada.
Same reason you have more than 2000 pts for 40k. Difference, almost everything is fun in x-wing, unlike 40k where not every unit is useful and you would never even be able to take an army of 1 single unit type (well, use to anyways lol). Games are short and quick at 100 pts... so any combo you want available just keeps things fresh and fun, and you can get through a surprising amount of 'goofy' and serious lists.
All D-Usa's reasons also apply, but ultimately main reasons are lists and cards.
Also, to point number 4, you confused crazy with effin awesome .

I'd like to get some more Ys and As, and try to do a "Hot & Cold" concept-list with slow Y-Wings plodding forward and fast A-Wings running in circles.
An Imperial TIE Bomber-list is also looking interesting to me.
And, of course, as soon as wave 4 comes out in stores I'll be getting all of them, plus enough Headhunters to do a Rebel Swarm.

Multiple Lambdas is actually a thing. Some folks are crazy enough to run 4 of them, say with Captain Yorr chewing on stress while they just outlast everything else with 20 shield and 20 hull. On top of that, people want to grab multiple Rebel Captives or Advanced Sensors.
X-Wing and Interceptor proliferation in my case is just from accumulation. I have 2 from Core sets, one X-Wing pack and another X-Wing from the GR-75. I played 4 Interceptor builds long before the Imperial Aces came out, so now I have 6.
11 X-Wings and 6 Advanced is rather silly though

This was one of those clever marketing things you have to give credit for. And to start off I want to say I have no complaints with it (other than the Stealth device only having one source and that being the Firespray mostly because I want two but am not sure I'd ever play with the second ship). The game "looks" cheap at first glance, especially if you like the basic X-Wing or Tie Fighters, but then you start reading about common pairings and to take a recently posted example you think "I want to run Luke, Wedge, and Biggs, and I have 3 X-Wings from buying 2 Core and and an expansion, but people say Biggs should get a Stealth device." And then you're buying a Firespray. "And I should also think about a basic R2 and Push the Limit for Wedge." There is a Y-Wing and either Imperial Aces or an A-Wing. "Luke would really do well with a Shield upgrade too." Falcon or Aces again.
You collection really does grow pretty quick when you have scenarios like the above.

Is there some sort of FFG police out there hunting people who don't have all the cardboard bitz for upgrades they're using? I just print my list off of that nice online fleet builder thing and don't even bother with the cards. I need to know if I have to barricade my house.

Agreement/response to Derek:
With the exceptionally rare instance of stealth device or advanced sensors, there is in my mind no draw back for buying two of any ship that comes in a blister and one of each ship that comes in a box and two again of each 'Aces' box, and exactly no more than that. But from my paradigm it hasn't been 'I buy this expansion to get upgrade xyz, I get it so that I can have that ship.' It just so happens that there are awesome toys in each box that give new life to my previous expansions. Like...
Me: I bought a core set! Yay!
FFG: Thank you! Here's two of the most commonly used X-wing pilot cards and an awesome Droid!
Me: Sweet! I like this game and I want the Falcon!
FFG: Cool! Here's absolutely everything you need for that, and some cool stuff for Luke to be awesome with!
Me: Neat! I'm getting Slave I now to fight the rebels back!
FFG: Great! Here's all that you need for that, you can use stuff from the YT-1300 you bought before, and as a bonus here's something awesome for Biggs and other ships that like agility if you ever buy those!
Me: YAAAAY!
In conclusion, I've never felt or seen anyone feel required to buy an FFG X-wing product for just specific pieces of it. I only see them being well compensated for their investment while hosing out the power buyer by making the game so balanced that buying all the 'best' ships in multiples doesn't actually serve any great in-game purpose. And honestly how often does a game do that? Any more in magic for instance out of a 250 card set or close to, there may be half a dozen cards that support or revitalize a card from years ago, sometimes on purpose, more often on accident I'd wager. So like 2% of a set help the existing while building on the recent and doing its own thing at the same time? FFG, I applaud you yet again, as you pull closer to like 50%. And it looks that way in every game I've seen of theirs. Skinner box? Maybe. But it's the best and most equitable one I've ever seen, so I'll keep pecking away. (Side note, just started playing their game 'Descent', and it's awesome!)
