Subject: Best Allies for Astra Militarum in 7th?

Hey Guys,
Being an Astra Militarum player, I am fully aware that they do not really need allies, the army is pretty strong by itself but if I were to expand my armies, what would be your best choice for battle brothers with AM?
I Have never played Space Marines and I have no idea which faction would be better. I have a little bit of Grey Knights, some Dark Angeld from Dark Vengeance and a few Space Wolves...All models I have never used.....
I have gotten into my AM big time lately and I would love to create an ally army composed of Imperial troops....Would really like to hear about which chapter would be best and why...also hearing about crazy combo could be cool too...
Tks for your help.

I don't know about best, but really cool would be to add an imperial knight. Has a lot of stuff that can help your AM survive longer since it's going to catch a lot of fire. I think it's a nice addition and looks very cool.

I have had some fun success with allying in Tigurius and then drop podding a 5 man tact squad with flamers. Hes an extra good psyker that modifies rolls like no other, plus he makes sure your valks will come in early! With this set up it also makes it easy to add a cheap storm talon for air support, a thunderfire cannon ( i know wyverns are better, but could you ever use LESS DAKKA? plus the reinforced ruins is nice) the ever classic hated centurion star, and one of my personal favorites, a command squad with 4 flamers and an apothecary (or 5 flamers) in a drop pod, guaranteed to MURDER anything they land on. Plus Ultramarines have no problem with fighting with guardsmen as long as they are crack troops (my personal army is the Tarsis Ultra 34th, survivors of that planet who have a strong working relationship with the Ultras and the 55th Alphic Hydras). Additionally, if that isnt your chapter simply using an Iron Hands chapter master or captain in a huge blob is also pretty nice, giving ATSKNF, preventing sweeps, and allowing for some very beefy CC. Another favorite ive seen is Azrael of the Dark Angels in a blob, since his squad always gets a nice 4++! Either way, you can maximize your investment by taking either cheap camo cloak snipers scouts to hold a far objective (and they hold it hard) or a 5 man tact squad with a special weapon of choice to drop pod in for fun times)
P.S. Had a thought, taking an all mech army with an Iron Hands chapter master and techmarines on bike to repair your tanks is not only a fun combo, but a reasonably fluffy one as well! Throw in a few drop podded ironclad dreads for some real distraction from your hard hitting armor columns to make it extra fun

Best allies in 7th? Grey knights...good, elite units, lots of warp charges, good ICs for blobs...

Any recommendation for Greyknight Units? So far I have Draigo, 5 paladins, a dread knight and the storm raven...
I don't know much about their units and which ones are best....are dreadnought worth considering now that vehicles are harder to destroy?

Personally, I use vanilla marines, scout to be more exact. Outflanking a few boltguns or having some cloaked snipers, not to mention a ATSKNF Captain for my HQ or blob can provide a few more options at my disposal.

I like using a knight. I find that it really helps with some MC control because some guard builds like the ones that don't use a ton of las cannons can have a hard time with t7/8 mcs.

I like using a knight. It draws a lot of fire and seems to weather it really well. Played a game tonight, objectives. At 2,500 points I was running a knight errant, along with two manticore, a squad of two punishes (w/ heavy bolters),. The knight threw my opponent for what to target. My four squads of vets were never shot at.
I know any sort of psykers are what is sexy now. I know psykers only improve your shooting, but, just can't bring myself to them.

I have about 25odd storm trooper models, so I really like codex MT for objective secured, deep striking, MTC storm troopers with a slew of special weapon options. Inquisition is also a really great option. I really want to look into SM allies, I'm just not sure what to take as allies that AM doesn't already do *cough* better or cheaper *cough*. Everyone says just take a CM on a bike with grav bikes, but I personally don't really like bikes. So I am still kind of stuck on what SM allies possibly offer guard aside from the beatstick CM on a bike with bikers or Tigirius.

Depends on what IG units are, Dreadknight destroys MCs and Hordes, Draigo/Paladins are a CC deathstar, for a large sum of points you could put a Dreadnought w/ flamer and the mini-Draigowing on the Stormraven drop it off on a High-Value enemy unit and proceed to wreck face for a couple of turns. Meanwhile the rest of your troops are fighting and securing objectives from the rest of the enemy troops.

Can never go wrong with Coteaz and some Plasma Cannon Servitors. And yes, the dreadnought is worth it now. Since is special rule was changed with the FAQ it rerolls all failed deny the witch rolls! VERY big now. And the psyfledread (two autocannons and psybolt ammo) is a decent long range unit.

I agree with all of the above.
@madcore -
Coteaz is a steal for 100 points and, as mentioned above, he can bring a pretty nasty shooty squad with him. 3x Plasma Cannon Servitors (potentially the cheapest PC in the game), 2 Jokaero, and a smattering of Acolytes to taste (storm bolters at 3pts are also a steal) net you a nice firebase. Divination for the rerolls on Gets Hot! and TL Lascannons is pretty nice. The Inconceivable Customization roll (at +1) gives you a good chance for 12" increased range (36" storm bolters, 48" PC) amongst other goodies.
Psyfleman Dreads are gold. They generate a warp charge, Deny the Witch on a rerollable 5+ (they're psykers, after all), and 4 S8 AP4 shots will ruin the day of many a transport (or even a flyer).
I also love my DK. Give him a Teleporter and a Sword and you've got a Jump type MC that can move 30" once per game, has 5 attacks on the charge at S10 AP2, WS5, T6, and a 2+/5++. Oh and it's a Force weapon with Daemonbane (I'm looking at you, Avatar). Not cheap, but boy will he give your opponent hell. Take two for extra super lulz!
A Storm Raven is a great delivery method for one of my other favorite henchmen squads. A mix of DCA, Crusaders, and a Xenos Inquisitor with Rad and Psycho grenades (maybe even a Priest too) is one of the nastiest point-for-point CC units you can unleash upon an unsuspecting target. They're pretty fragile in shooting, so be careful, but they'll blenderize almost anything with a huge number of attacks. You could also take a GK Inquisitor (or even Coteaz) and blast some Sanctic Psyker melee ( GK only perils on 6's on Sanctic daemonology, unlike every other army) boosts like Hammerhand.
I'd also potentially recommend the Inquisition Codex for Allies potential. They have a special FOC that only requires you to take a single HQ (no troop required) so you can babysit your big guns with ML1 Divination Psykers for 55 points each. Don't forget to take 3 Servo Skulls each so you can prevent infiltrators/scouts and roll less scatter on your blasts within 12". Well worth it.
Lots of options and great synergy now that they're Battle Brothers. GK or Inquisition are definitely my pick to augment Guard.
DoW
EDIT - Apparently I need to sign my name twice. I'm THAT important...

I think Space Marines could be a decent idea.
Max out on Wyverns and troll your opponent for hours by forcing them to fight through a wall of MEQ and consripts to make it into range to destroy your wyverns.

Tigurius is the most reliable way to put Invisibility on a blob, though, and is the only ally or psyker that I will be likely to take in my armies.

If you're looking to buff the IG, this is probably accurate. I dunno about best ally overall, in terms of what they bring to the table, but Azrael is definitely the best character for a blob.

I am looking into a conscript squad + priest with an allied beatstick chapter master on a bike, with a xeno grenade inqusitor and a hereticus inquisitor with liber heresius and psyocculum. Season to taste and release onto the enemy.
Do you have to have a white scar cm for hit and run?

Inquisition is popular for AM players around my local.
Coteaz, Inquisitors with Servo skulls (helping scatter, stopping scouting) with access to divination to help the shooting. Also great for buffing leadership and the like. Useful and really fluffy, without costing too much and changing the entire make-up of the army.
