I have been combing through my books and online sources and I am trying to nail down a question about these banners. So I know there is the Chapter Banner and the Company banner in the honor guard with bonuses to morale checks, but the option to have flags on Company Captains and even on anyone thanks to the little flag in the tactical squad sprew. Do these smaller flags have any kind of game play impact or are they just fluff?

Thanks

The smaller back banners are just for show. They're a handy way of identifying squads, but have no in-game purpose.

They are there so you can use them to identify your sargeants and captains more easily, should you want to use them. I tend to use mine in objective markers, rather than back banners.

They're ugly. Do like Chaos and stretch the skin of someones face across your standard poles. That'll leave an impression on your enemies. XD

They're also to be displayed at the squad leader's discretion. Personally, my retro Ultramarines fly every flag they can. My Fists and Dark Angels are decidedly less ostentatious.

As I am assembling the http://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Space-Marine-Strikeforce I have plenty of bits of skin from exacto knife miss-haps and glue flows.... maybe enough for a banner.

Just to clarify, yes REAL human skin. FORGE THAT NARRATIVE!! XD

Put some real blood and bones into your work! Nothing says "Nurgle" than a swarm of flies hovering over your "a little too life-like" Plague Marines.

Ok! Now I have something to do with this door-to-door evangelist who wouldn't take "no thankyou" for an answer.

I prefer to give as many Sergeants, characters and officers banners as I can, I find it an easy way of identifying squads quickly, and as a way of making a model look more important.

On the downside, they make the army harder to pack for travel. I’ve been putting a banner topper straight on the backpack recently for my sarges. Gives you that little “I’m important” flair, without being unwieldy.

I heard about a guy in my group (before my time) who was so into the Nurgle thing he actually glued flies to his models. No one was amused (at the time. It's hilarious now.)

I hate my AoBR captain for that, but the double length sword blade and his combi plasma don't help.

Personally I avoid the banners in general.

Yep. None of my battle foam trays have a "Big Ass Banner" slot. A lot of my sergeants have the banners, so I wrap them in a paper towel and place them all in a Rhino slot.

With softer foam, you can just have them stick out a little. Don’t think that is an option with the firmer battlefoam.

I had to carve one out for them with my very first captain.

Why not make the banners detachable? O__o?

Not necessarily magnetic, but perhaps use a sauder or something to put a flag holder slot on the model? Maybe that's harder to do than it sounds. <<

Personally, I'm marking all of my CSM squads with something that tells me exactly what they are and what they are using. Granted, I'm way far from that goal though since those stupid Chosen suck from the WYSIWYG stand point.
