Do dakka grammar errors annoy anyone else? I'm no rocket scientist, but it's embarrassing. I understand that ours is a pursuit of the young. This forum mixes kids with adults. Most of us access via mobile devices. Spelling errrors and minor grammar missteps I overlook - likely because I'm just as guilty. However, the British flags seem the most flagrant violators. C'mon guys.

I never noticed british posters having poorer spelling skills.

Unless you mean their nasty habit of misspelling certain words such as armor, grey, and color. And their insistence on calling cookies biscuits.

It always makes me think of the scene in Snatch when Avi says "This is the country that spawned the F$&@ing language, and so far nobody seems to speak it!" If it's an American I just channel a bit of Samuel L. Jackson "English MF Do You Speak It!?

I. Just think it lowers the attention I pay a post if it's consistently misspelled or has no punctuation. If the poster doesn't put enough effort in to post clearly, why would I expend effort to read it?

The one that really gets me is when people say "advise" when they mean "advice", I don't know why that one in particular, perhaps it's the one I notice the most?

I don't often have that problem to be honest. I usually post on an Android device or my iMac and both, happily, have pretty darned good auto-correct features. Hell, the iMac even adds missing punctuation.

It does tend to make one lazy though...

I haven't noticed a tendency for one nationality to have poorer spelling or grammar, honestly. (I've noticed that one nationality in particular tends to have a higher-than-average number of people who think rudeness is a virtue though. On Dakka, at any rate.)

Certain spelling errors (or grammar errors) drive me completely bananas.

'Loose' instead of 'lose.'
The word 'versing.'
'For all intensive purposes.'

And there seems to be a divide on it, with no clear right-or-wrong (like dove and dived), but the use of 'homebrew' rather than my preference of 'homebrewed' makes me want to chew my own fingers off.

As a riter I pride myself on good speling and grammer and find that its iritating when people cant not adhere to basic rules suchlike adding comas to break up unnecesssarily long sentences and lists and other things and people who cant seem to grasp ending sentences before starting new one's just annoy me you know what I mean?

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

At first I went "Ew!", but after reading it, It sounds interesting and, dare I say it, interesting! I'd definitely eat that with scones! (Biscuits to you Americans)
Not with bacon, though. Despite what people think bacon does not go with everything! (Bacon as a side would be fine )

Damn all this talk of food has taken me off topic...

Honestly, I don't tend to get too annoyed about it if is at least readable, however by god if it is a massive wall of text that isn't legible, see you I'm out of hear!

I never claimed this. Dakka still has grammar errors, considering when someone posts it becomes part of Dakka and therefore it can be considered with regards to the possessive.

I've seen a few where I have had to do a double take grammar errors don't annoy me as such. Though they can sometimes make understanding a post slightly difficult.

I know my spelling is rather pants, especially when I am posting from my phone where the anoying touch keypad and stupid cursor/copy and paste thing it has going on, so I can certainly forgive it in others.
