"Transport capacity of 10 or can transport one dreadnought."
Looking at one of these from the point of view of my 40K CSM.
The question is what qualifies a model as a "dreadnought?" One would presume a Helbrute qualifies, since they're listed as spiky dreads. But what about a Contemptor? A Decimator?
Or even Forgefiends/Maulerfiends and Defilers??? (Though not sure why you'd want one in there)
Is a dreadnought merely defined by being a yea-big walker with 2 arms and 2 legs? If so, where is it defined as such? And what is the limit on what you can pack into a dreadclaw?
I've searched and come up with nothing conclusive at all.
Specifically my concern is whether the Decimator is allowed to be carried via Dreadclaw or not since I picked one up yesterday.
Thanks for your time!

The rules for the Dreadklaw is only found in the Forge World Horus Heresy series of books, and the upcoming Imperial Armor update book. This isn't an issue in 30K, as there are no Forgefiends/Maulerfiends, Defilers, Decimators, etc.
There are Dreadnoughts, and Contemptor Dreadnoughts, and the 30K rules are VERY clear about what a Dreadclaw can transport: "The Dreadclaw has a transport capacity of 10 or can be used to transport a single Dreadnought." -Legiones Astartes Crusade Army List, pg. 45.
As a side note, there is a Legion Dreadnought Drop Pod on pg. 37 of the same book. It's a lot cheaper then a Dreadclaw in points, but you lose all the fun stuff that you get with the Dreadclaw.
Basically, this is a case where your 30K model just doesn't work that well in 40K. While I wouldn't care if you used one in 40K, I'd say talk it over with your opponent first. A fair ruling would be that in order for it to transport a Dreadnought in your army, that it would have to be on the same sized base as your "typical dread" (60mm), and it should have the Walker rule. Or- it can only transport 10 models, or a Dreadnought, or a Contemptor Dreadnought as those are the only models listed by name in it's rules. No Helbrutes, no Decimators, no <insert name>Fiends.
This is 7th Edition though, so FORGE THE NARRATIVE HARDER and tell your opponent some fluffy reason why your 10,000 year old drop pod can transport a brand new Decimator.

Actually the Dreadclaw is available in a few IA books, I believe the most recent is Imperial Armour: Aeronautica.
It's most definitely NOT a 30k only unit.

When the Dreadclaw's rules were last released for 40k in IA: Aeronautica, there was still such thing as a Chaos Dreadnought. I don't think it's unreasonable to use Helbrutes instead, though strictly speaking it is not RAW.

Thanks for the timely replies, but carrying a Helbrute was never really a question since (to our meta at least) they're just chaos dreadnoughts by a different name. Same stats and mostly the same options, etc.
The question is still specifically about Contemptor and Decimator models. Forgefiends/Maulerfiends were just thrown into the post as a curiosity.
Anyone have any knowledge one way or the other?
Tamwulf, you get bonus points for rocking an argument with Forge the Narrative.
Dreadclaws like things chaos-y. Decimators are decidedly chaos-y. Fluff!
Your argument about size and shape gets a little iffy, since the contemptor and decimator are both just a bit bigger but the same overall shape as the helbrute/dreadnought.
But the Dreadclaw is definitely, as mentioned, not restricted to 30K. As of right now last I read it says to use the 30K rules OR the rules in Aeronautica 2013 for 40K, since they haven't released any new 40K specific rules yet.

A Contemptor is still a Dreadnought, but its not strictly RAW unless the rule states "Dreadnought of any type" as the Stormraven does for example.
A Decimator, Forgefield, Maulerfiend or Defiler are in no way a Dreadnought, have completely different fluff and rules and cannot be transported in this way as they are not Dreadnoughts.

I just got 2 Dreadclaws off someone who sold me his army. He regularly used them in games to transport Decimators.
While I realize this has little to do with actual rules being published, his opponents did not have issues with them being used this way.
Maybe this is a good question to ask the Forgeworld team? They have been very responsive to rules questions lately.

Hi ******,
Thank you for your email. The Dreadclaw Drop Pod can transport a single Chaos Dreadnought or Contemptor Dreadnought. It can not hold a Decimator as this would be too large.
If there is anything further we can do to assist you, or if you have any queries about the information we have requested or provided, please telephone us.
Regards,
Forge World

Okay now that we know it can't carry Decimators, which rules do we use for Dreadclaws? The Legiones Astartes Crusade book shows the Dreadclaws as "Kharybdis Assault Claw" with cool "Heat Blast" rules. In IA: 2012 it lists it as 85 points with none of these cool effects. Both are fast attack choices. Are these separate models entirely and do Chaos have access to either?

Kharybdis is a completely different vehicle to the dreadclaw. And one of those books is 30k, one is 40K, use the rules for the system you are playing. So if you're playing Chaos, as the choas codex you are limited to the rules for 40K, if by "Chaos" you mean traitor legions in 30K then you would use the applicable horus heresy rules
For reference:
