Any summary for those of us who can't watch the video. Because these kinds of things can vary from a fairly sensible point on the various poor structures, traps and false promises in the financial systems, to moonbat lunacy about how debt is a conspiracy designed to trap us in to lives as slaves. Which side of the spectrum does this video fall on?

Well, that sure is an opinion.
“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Poor decisions from along time ago, and a bit of one just bad luck can send people over the edge into financial problems. How Title loans are handled.

Come Here Re-Jihadin!
No, but really. Whenever I think about this kind of stuff, I think about Dave Ramsey. I think everyone should watch his series/or listen to his audiobooks, to at least get his perspective on financial advice. Doesn't mean you have to follow it, but he talks about everything people need to know at the basic level about money, and what to do/not to do to help themselves. It's actually really good stuff.

Interesting. A good subject for a documentary then. I'll see if I can view it when I've got a minute.

Don't apologise, it was on-topic and wasn't inflammatory (unless there's large documentary maker community on dakka I was unaware of), it was just a really strong opinion on something I didn't know people held strong opinions on. Anyhow, it ain't no thing. Moving on.

This is probably a better article, and 100% more entertaining than a documentary.
There are different kinds of poor. There's actually another cracked article that's really good, that points out the distinction between people who have no money simply because they earn very little, and people who have no money because they have no idea how to control their finances.
The problems of the former are greater, but it shouldn't preclude us from talking about the latter.

Yep. Some people are "Broke" and most people have been "Broke" at one time or another. Poor is a Mentality.

And then theres those that earn enough and banks giving poor advice so they can leech them for decades on intrest.
A Dark Angel fell on a watcher in the Dark Shroud silently chanted Vengance on the Fallen Angels to never be Unforgiven

You can have a very high income, and still be broke.
Whenever you do research for a Finance adviser, you should go through the same kind of extensive background check that you would for hiring a high level employee in a company.
