IG/ IG vs 'Nids/Chaos
- he killed about 5 hormagaunts,
IG/Sisters vs Tau/Tau
- killed two allied Sisters of Battle and wrecked my ally's immolator.
Lesson learned, he's not real great in danger-close situations.
So he made his points back in both games?

I think in the second game he LOST point as he killed allied stuff rather than enemy stuff.

Inquisitorial Detatchment, 2 inquisitors (Ordo Hereticus for me for anti-psyker) 6 servo skulls.
Servo Skulls do two things, first they shut down enemy infiltrators and scouts within 12" of them, and second, friendly blast templates placed within 12" of a Servo-skull roll one D6 less for scatter.
With 6 2 foot diameter circles, you can overlap everything outside of deployments, and some inside your enemy's deployment, making the entire table a killing zone for artillery of all kinds. To get rid of a skull, they need to move within 6 inches of it, and with clever placement, your second row of three skulls can overlap the first.
MoOs become slightly less accurate basilisks that can ignore cover, for as little as 68 points worth of Inquisition Detachment.

Yes, danger-close situations are not where MOO likes it. Funny enough, I never used him before the current codex came out. Now I use the MOO in 2 of my lists - traditional IG infantry-heavy w lots of tanks (the CCS doesn't move much), and my AirCav (led by Straken in a CCS in a Vend, the MOO sits in a 2nd CCS who starts on-ground providing leadership support). I like the idea of a random S8 pie landing somewhere amongst the enemy

I was always under the impression that MoOs scatter the full 12" like Orbital Bombardments. 'Dex not in hand, am I wrong?

They always scatter, even if the MOO has LOS to target, in which case they scatter minus his BS

Since CCS is the priority target and usually the first dead unit in my games, i dont bother with another 20 points to lose.

Yet mine often survives, oddly. My opponents are rarely so focused on a five man guard squad armed with sniper rifles. They focus on my tanks. Also, I am very liberal when it comes to go to ground.

Yeah, I think, ironically, the best way to make a CCS survive is to make it as unappealing as possible to shoot at. You stick a character that drops a Basilisk shot every round... Well, that's like saying "Hey, here's a 20-point basilisk kill and Slay the Warlord."
