I like what was said earlier. Cheating just means you're not good enough. You might win a game or two you shouldn't have and you might even pull the wool over someones eyes. But over time, no one will ever hold you in elite esteem. For me, that matters. So I'm not about to sully my rep. I think we've all made mistakes or forgotten things since it's a complicated bunch of mechanics and wishful thinking creeps in. But man... Stand your GROUND.

Hold out bait to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and then crush him.

On a similar vein, I was playing a game last Saturday against someone who I'm ninety percent sure was cheating his rolls. He took saves one at a time when it was unnescessary (All against a single vehicle that had 1HP left and couldn't explode with the weapon I was shooting at it, for example,) and later on took Leadership tests by practically just setting down the dice. (He passed them, and I made him reroll them.)
I still won, but it got old and frustratimg fast.

I think it would just be easier to say he can still compete in the tournament, however he will not receive any prizes.

It seems like the best solution overall so long as he isn't such a slimeball to make a deal with someone else and attempt to rig the tourney.

HAHA ... was so much fun he challenged me to a totally fair game w/ no funny stuff of Emperors Will to prove he could hang and he didn't need to cheat. 6 people were watching b/c of all the drama of the previous game. Everyone was gathered around all tense and whispering.

We both roll the same Warlord trait +1 to seize and re roll reserves. So he rolls and gets 1st turn. Sets up his 2 Land Raiders(Thunder Hammer SS Terms Inside), Dev Squads ect....... Has a Storm Raven and a drop pod w/ Stern Guard in resv.

I do seize move up 5 Rhinos(Dozer Blades w/ 2 Warr Acos and a psyker in each) 18 inches and most of them are behind cover ---- 2 didn't get immobilized b/c of the blades I might add . Only 1 group of 7 Monkeys gets prescience(at least it is the Coteaz group that I have 3 PC Servitors in) I failed on the other 2 groups of 7 Jokaeros w/ 5 dice each thrown at them. I also fail Prescience on my 2 Tech Marines w/ Conv Beamers w/ another 5 dice. 1 Conv beamer Immobilizes a LR. Another 7 monkeys Strip a hull point. The other 7 Monkeys all hit but 1 of them even tho I failed prescience but I roll all 1 and 2s to do nothing to the LR.

His turn he DS the Stern Guard in a pod next to Coteaz. (Tho I can't imagine why I have 6 voids shields that the Stern won't get thru even w/ a couple of meltas) After he finishes setting up the pod and DS unit I say," Let me roll I've been expecting you with the 7 Monkeys, Coteaz, 3 PC serv, and 1 Psker w/ Las Pistol and they all have prescience."

His response, "What type of BS rule is this?."

I say, " You have played against Coteaz before you don't remember?"

Him, "Oh yeah." and proceeds to start moving the drop pod and marines 12 inches away out of Coteaz range.

Me, "I don't think so man."

Him, "But they'll just die."

Me, "Everyone vote should I let him move them?"

Vote results 4 No 2 Yes.

Him. "What cheese man I can't believe you won't let me move them. What a cheese list." He hadn't even got hit with all those Shriek Rhinos yet. Very Cheap 18pts for 2 Acos and a psyker 45pts for a Rhino w/ Dozer." 63pts for 2 WCs is good in my book.

Me,"You made me mad last week I brought a no holds barred list."

Him, "You win I am out of here." as his eyes tear up and go really red. He concedes packs up and leaves w/o another word. I will give him this he did bring in his really hot GF to watch the grudge rechallenge match. I hear her say on the way out. "How did you lose?" He is prob better off spending time w/ her she is really hot so I still count him as getting a win in the end.........

Take away his cards, make him roll dice in the future. That's what I hate about cards, and it's what makes it so he can't cheat anymore.

Where do you guys play that you have an endless supply of 40k players? Kicking out a player is a terrible idea, they may never come back. Social pressure solves most problems, especially with younger people. Yes 22 is still young these days unfortunately. I probably wouldnt have even bothered to tell on the kid. You should have just called him on it as soon as it happened. Let him know where you stand on said behavior and him. If he's smart he will change and appreciate that you kept it informal. If not, then you call him a cheater, then you let everyone know he's a cheater. Eventually he will stop or the group will relentless badger him out the door I would imagine. Truth is, we all just want to be accepted, I'm sure he's no different. Maybe I'm just getting old...

His age has nothing to do with it. 14 or 22, either way, you damn well know by that age that it's wrong to cheat at a game. If you don't? Then I would like to have a word with the parents that failed you in your upbringing. I can use them as an object lesson on how things are done down South.

Cheating with cards? Sounds like Tzeentch nonsense to me. HERESY. Only one solution, and it needs to be taken quick, before the entire Regiment is corrupted by his blasphemic trickery.

Commissar, execute him. With the Demolisher Cannon if you please.

Note: Execution of fellow gamers by method of low velocity HE round not officially condoned due to concerns over collateral damage and illegal nature of murdering someone over cheating at cards.

Hmm... I dont know how i feel about this. I think having a judgmnetal audience around, asking them to interfere in what is essentially an opportunity for sportsmanship... I dunno.

Also: Void shields are dumb. Stronghold and Escalation are just... I dunno. I don't know how I feel about that.

If I have rules that can potentially win me the game like shooting at reserves I make damn sure to remind my opponent so something like that doesn't happen. I don't think that beating him by not telling him about your rules was particularly called for.

Not defending the guy cheating, that's not on, but you can deal with a cheater by social pressure rather than what you did.

We're watching you... scum.

If someone gets caught cheating in a league, they should be kicked out of the league. There's absolutely no reason to keep them in it. The whole point of a league of any game is sportsmanship. If you have none, I don't want you in my league.

If you warned everyone about Coteaz every time they deep strike something no one would ever get caught and it isn't like it was his 1st time playing vs Coteaz. I would warn new players every time but someone who has played vs him before and has a year or more under his belt of 40k then that is not going to happen. Also it matters whether it is a friendly game, tournament, or league game. I will be a lot more lenient in a friendly game. If your playing for prizes at the end don't try and cheat me. I will use everything at my disposal to wreck you.

Also in a competitive environment w/ prizes and entry fees if stronghold and escalation are allowed I will use them. I wouldn't use Voids or a Warhound in a friendly game.

If I can't ask those around for an opinion on things then who can I ask. I think it is more than fair to ask people around you rather than to have the 2 biased players make the decision. Plenty of times of I have changed my mind b/c the people around said it was reasonable to allow something.

He already knew about Coteaz because he'd played against Coteaz before. I see no obligation to help an opponent avoid making a stupid mistake, especially someone who just got caught cheating. TBH they should just be thankful that they were allowed to play a game at all.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

If someone is caught cheating, then they should be kicked out of the whole shabang. They are going to plan to cheat from game 1 to the final game. All of this in order to steal the prize that other people would had obtained honorably.

So you ended up bullying him out of the store basically. Couldn't just let him go, if I was the store owner you would now be on my short list of people to watch like a hawk. Regardless of the cheating episode of the player creating a gang up group to do that is horrible. Worse then frikkin card floppers.

My thoughts exactly DaKrumpa, Cheating is definitely wrong and deserves to e punished. But that was uncalled for essentially singling him out and making him an outsider, lets hope he doesn't do something in response.

I am a new player, and I would have absolutely ZERO problems with getting hosed by Corteaz. It is my responsibility as a player to ask the opponent what certain units of his are and what they do. If I don't, tough, maybe I will remember to ask next time, or better yet LEARN what his army can do. And the cheater's bad decision would not have exactly garunteed a win. Dice can do strange things. I've seen someone have a good round then fail every single roll after that.

I can see this happening. Heck, before my local gamestore closed down one person got banned for life. For pulling a knife on someone over a game of 40k he was losing. Only time in the store's history someone was banned and the cops called.
Cheaters NEED to be berated and watched until they can prove they can be trusted. Not saying they should be berated all the time, constantly, or for a long period of time, but for a short period the ydeserve to be embarrassed. And should be watched especially if money was paid for said tournament.

THE END.

I feel like this game was prob skewed towards trying to embarrass this chap esp with the "tension and whispers". Like the 6 people watching and you could rules lawyer him into oblivion. There is more to what happened here than this coteaz incident I'm sure... I can't see him packing his gak up because of this.

This game should have never been played esp at the expense of another person. Sure he may have cheated, but YOU should not have played him AGAIN esp In This setting. Your in the wrong now, and your in the wrong also for bringing this second game here and laughing at the incident.

This is borderline cyber bullying or ostracizing.

There is a line between punishment and bullying, consequences are punishment. Embarrassment is bullying.
We already have a hobby/pastime that is not always socially acceptable we don't need to bully within our own community. I believe the OP should sit down with the cheater and try to hash this out over a beer.

I'm not impressed Mythra.

That was not a good way to handle the situation. Pretty disgraceful, in fact. Especially when you come back here to thump your chest about it.

Cheating is certainly wrong, but you have lost your position in the right as well.

Back to the OP:

Kick him out. How many games had already been played?
He should auto lose all those as well.

This was the first time he had been caught.

A friendly random game, might just be giving a harsh warning and talking it out. An event I PAID to enter?

Kick him out.

Next time, have the TO stipulate what will happen to cheaters.

Someone did this to me, I would pay them the entry fee, and a bus ticket to mexico - get out of my store and my face.

Anyone can cheat at anything - it takes no skill - its only a sign of being a coward.

I agree that if he is caught cheating he should be out of the tournament, but I would also say give him another chance next tournament. Keep him under close observation. He may be a cheater now but maybe that can be corrected. I wish my league had the option to boot the cheaters, but sadly; that is not an option. One is the TO and we are too small to be able to lose a person. The sad thing about the TO is he doesn't need to cheat. He is a VERY good player and most of the time he doesn't cheat, but he HATES losing even friendly matches. However he is the best person to play when learning like me. He knows pretty much all the rules armies and units and after he mops the floor with you he will go over the game and tell you what you did wrong and what you did right. He doesn't cheat outright just fudges things now and then so you got to watch him. The other player is just a cheater. Cheats at MTG cheats at 40k. The second player I go for blood when I play him.
