Would you complain if it were about a Marine Scout "smacking" a Daemon Prince to death? (assuming that these would be the equivalent units for Astartes and Chaos Daemon armies in the game)!

Yes, yes, I would. Everything is possible in theory, that does not make it less off-putting if it happens regularly.

There was a Noblewoman in the fluff, her claim to fame was binding up to FOUR greater daemons to her soul with her willpower.

Slaanesh ended up making her a Daemon Prince because of it. Do not doubt what one can do in 40k.

In chess, a pawn represents a peasant/footsoldier. They can take down anything else in the game, right up to the royalty -that's just a part of chess.

This looks promising. What platforms will this be available on?

Our current scope for release is PC, tablet and mobile.
One of the features here is that the one game account translates across all platforms, so games can be picked up or resumed whether you're hunched over your cogitator, or casually flipping through your data-slate on the mag-lev to work.
When I originally posted this thread our website was being updated, but it's back again! http://www.warhammer40kchess.com/start
I'll pop up the new image when I post it on Facebook tonight.

I'll admit, I was doubtful it would work at first, but I think this community interaction idea's really helped settle my doubts. Thanks!
Also, really loving the designs ESPECIALLY the Warboss.

If I may ask a question (and I'm hoping this hasn't been asked yet) would it just be like classic chess with 40k pieces, or would there be a second variant with a slight change in gameplay?

Any love for Windows Phone in there? Regardless, I'm definitely into it on PC. Graphically this is looking excellent, maybe the bigger screen is a good thing!

There will be classic chess; but in terms of the secondary mode "slight change" would be an understatement. I don't know if the chess world is ready for Space Marines with boltguns, but I'm sure the community of Warhammer 40,000 fans will be more than happy to 'introduce' them. Regicide mode is going to be more in the vein of a turn-based tactical game like X-Com, or Final Fantasy Tactics. That's my comparison at least - we're making something quite different indeed.

Cheers! As we're developing for PC initially, we can go all-out on the quality. Of course the mobile versions will have lower poly-counts. I can't confirm that we'll have Windows Phone 7.5 compatibility, but at this point we haven't confirmed anything specific in terms of platform. Your desires will be, as ever, noted!

Colour me more interested with X-COM thrown in there.

Are units scaled with each other or do we have the tanks and people being the same size type deal going on?

I didn't say anything about tanks! I just said there will be more than infantry, as that was the original question.

There won't be any bizarrely scaled mini-tanks or anything like that, don't worry. >.<

Also we need some Mk. 8 armour Marines in this game.

Spoiler:

I'd just love to see your art team bring it to life.

Oh man, I've been wanting a (modern) turn-based 40K game for a long time. Sounds pretty cool so far!

As for the squiq's name...I'd go with Squiggleton
