So I want to do a mechanized WW1 themed army for Imperial Guard. So I found a really cool set of models which are pretty cheap seen below. I just want some unique Vehicles to use alongside them. My other army already uses the death corps vehicles so FW is out of the question.
What im after is a tracked transport with a FRONT ramps to embark and disembark from. Dont care if its a bit big or small or open topped etc. I first though of using the amphibious landing craft which could work but I thought id ask around to see what others know of!
$66.00 USD for 30 (free shipping) and I love them! I'll have to work on getting them special weapons and officers but with the wealth of options out there it wont be hard im sure.
So any ideas on vehicles described above?

The Mark IV is the aesthetic im after for sure.
But imagine it with a big front ramp that just drops so the soldiers can charge out the front. Like a landing craft on land.
I cant even find a picture of the type of vehicle im looking for. Automatically Appended Next Post:
Ahhh found it. Something like the water Buffalo. Or even the water buffalo.

You could look into LCAC hovercraft and LVTs. Nobody has made front-loading Amphibious Assault Vehicles since WW2, and before WW2 they weren't really a thing (men landed using boats!).

I know, at Gallipoli they made the first front loaded ship landing but yea I cant find much besides WW2 ones as well.
Do you know a company that makes the front loading Water Buffalo seen in the picture above?
The hover craft will look really odd next to the men I plan on using haha but the LVTs would be perfect if they had a front ramp.

I couldn't see one when I spent five minutes looking, but then, I didn't go very in depth.
I believe you want 1/72 scale to be closest to 40k infantry models, but vehicles are generally more like 1/48. I did have a handy guide, but it seems to have vanished into the annals of time.

Yea I guess I can try reversing a chimera or something.
Im hell bent on that front ramp for some reason.
Any ideas on how to achieve it?

I have an idea.
Take a Rhino. Cut away the top plate at the 'back' so that it's more open-topped if you want to go for the traditional LVT look. Instead of the normal front plate with the windows, kitbash yourself an engine block to put there, or at the least smokestacks. Where the two round hatches are in the Rhino, replace them with a mounting plate for a small turret, such as the one from the Chimera (since I assume you'll be using Chimera rules) with the turret and all the gubbins (HKMs, searchlights, etc) pointing towards the ramp. Because it's an amphibious vehicle, it won't look strange at all that the front ram is sloped inwards towards the bottom.

Sounds good. Ill get a rhino and see what I can do. Ill try my best to make sure it has the features of a chimera but that should be easy to do.
Thanks heaps for the help.

40K infantry are the height of 1/48 and the fatness of 1/35. Vehicles are roughly the length of 1/48 and the width of 1/35.
If you want a good chunky transport with a front ramp the LVTP-5 in 1/35 scale is ideal. In this pic the front ramp is open and there is a net over the loading bay entrance.

Wow, that is really cool.
Last year I almost purchased a tank for sale on Trademe (our Ebay). It ran on left over fish and chip cooking oil etc too! Was so cool but I would never have got around to using the thing or even maintaining it haha.
Cool auction though!

Too bad you're not interested in FW models again, because the Gorgon is just perfect for a WWI "landing craft" tank:

Well being new zealand in the second world war we were scared the Japs would come and invade. So we build a few bunkers and one man decided we could build the first indigenous tank of New Zealand. This tank was made from a tractor with corrugated iron Armour (the latest corrugated iron of the time). A number of machine guns and mattress to try stop some of the crew burning alive from the engine. That tank is known as the bob semple tank. I highly advise you google this tank and have a laugh. Its proof that Orks have infiltrated our society.

Im going to make a model of it one day. Maybe make an ANZAC Ork army with them or something. Because 7 machine guns on a tank is pretty cool. Especially when the tank is a shed.

It's an obvious one, but the land raider DOES fit your criteria. could even use them as is and run an unbound list

BrianDavion wrote:It's an obvious one, but the land raider DOES fit your criteria. could even use them as is and run an unbound list Is a landraider really worth transporting 10 corpses though? I mean im a fluff player first but it seems a bit too impractical even for my tastes. But you are right if they made mini versions of the tank, it would be perfect. I think the rhino idea and the marine transport earlier are my best fits at the moment.

Coming back to this (sorry)
Any Idea how "easy" it might be yo simply reverse the Chimera bit?
I dont have a model, but if I turn the model around (So the hatch is at the front), modify the turret to have duel Heavy Bolters and maybe flatten the Back (which will have the front) and obviously work the tracks to fit the new direction.
In my head it seems easy. But then again what doesnt? So anyone with a Chimera know if this will work?

Bolt Action makes 28mm Buffalo. Maybe you can use this model as base to convert into a more "gothic"/imperium mood?

That is very close, but has a back ramp. If my chimera idea doesn't work then ill probably use that, as it was exactly what i was after (except I thought the ramp was at the front haha).
Cheers mate.

I think the Chimera would work, with some work. The thing about front ramps is that they look better when angled (like a Land Raider), rather than straight up (like the Chimera). Building the Chimera back to front works. What I would do then is to extend the roof forwards so that when you glue on the door, it will be angled forwards. I think you would need to slice off some of the sides of the roof piece so that it's angled properly. Then cover up the gaps on the side with plasticard or something. Repping the hull heavy bolter would be fun - I'm thinking some kind of HB pod on the roof or top flank of the hull. The turret can remain where it is, just point it the other way, and it should look good. Converting the old front of the Chimera to make it look like the rear should be fun too, and really is a matter of how you want it to look and how much bits and plastic card you want to use. Hmmm, now it sounds like it's going to look pretty awesome. Hey, the Chimera is supposed to be amphibious, so it is, in fact, a landing craft!

yea there are plenty of ways of doing it for sure. The front ramp will definitely have to be angled. I was going to originally have the hull heavy bolter coming out of the hatch but then it would impede the view of the turret weapons!
Ill get a chimera from somewhere tonight and see what I can do!
