I admire their guts but not much else. The fact that they brought their kids with them shows either a lack of understanding of what their doing or lack of caring about if their kids get killed. I agree about the US government getting more authoritarian but they picked a crappy issue to make a stand on.

As Salon makes the point of where the hell were these guys during all the other abuses of power. Where were they when medical marijuana patients were handcuffed to hospital beds? What about the "kids for cash" scandal when kids were being literally sold to privatized prisons by judges? Why don't they go threaten the local cops where I live that are infamous for doing things like shooting an old lady? Or the Swat team in the country north of mine that shot the 15 year old that no one cares about? I find it strange that the media criticizes Anonymous who don't threaten anyone just change the codes of websites and invade privacy lives who actually fight for the rights of people who can't fight themselves like that girl in Steubenville.

I mean i'm all for opposition. If their had been a riot over the kids for cash scandal I would have joined in, I would have been armed and dangerous but it just passed and the media paid very little attention to it. BP wrecked my hometown and used armed thugs to scare people away, why not send squads of militia after them esaesilly when you'd be legally in your right to fight against people who are harassing people?

The Left also has this same problem, they've rather protest Japanese whalers(while breaking the law and potentially getting people killed) than demand real punishments for companies that make millions through illegal dumping but get fined 25 thousand dollars.

And yes I realize that their are substantial ideological differences and we may be drawn to different and often opposing causes. I realize but those who oppose the status quo must realize that though we might not be allies we still have a common interest in many things. Its why I criticize liberal friends of mine who are yapping about how great it is when a right wing group gets classified was subversive or dangerous such as the sovereign citizen movement, it really just means more surveillance and control imposed on all of us.

It happens because people kneejerk react to things rather than look into them, ala the Bundy case, where a story was told and caught on because it suited people. Look into the story later, the first story told makes no sense, but people just say you're lying and that the first story is completely true. Even when the evidence becomes so overwhelming they can no longer keep a straight face by saying the first story is true, they won't change their opinion on the matter at all they'll just admit the first story isn't true, move the goal post, say "it's the principle of the matter" etc.

Ignorance is bliss. Political parties love it, because if they can keep debates at the lowest common denominator (or lower) they can avoid backing themselves into corners over specifics, keep interest on things that aren't really worth the time spent arguing them and off other things, and because of the basic principle of first and last word. Get the word in first, and that's what people are going to remember more often than not, so you want to get the word in first even if you aren't sure it's true. It's politics so there's no such thing as the last word.

I leery of looking at the current status of Bundy. The guy lost the farm. Some "patriot" asking for cash on Craiglist(?). Some turtles are dead. Some cows are dead. Fed out quite a few millions because possessing Bundy ranch is not going to cover the expense. I was actually wanting to see how far he can go with it. Then I got allergic to Bundy when he got "STUPID".

To the OP:

I don't think that, to the person picking their target that anything is a "poor" target... From the outside looking in on many issues, we see that these people are idiotic or, moronic, or whatever you want to describe them as, because we're not in their precise situation and are thus, making a rather incomplete judgement of their individual situation.



As for the Politicians in Washington who do this... I got nothin' they hire people to, in theory, keep them from looking stupid for picking a bad target... but it's a no win job.

With the constant news cycle politicians and pundits constantly have to find people that they can rally behind to fire up their base (voters, viewers, donors).

There is not really any time for fact checking with that since the news are reporting RIGHT NOW so you need to decide to rally RIGHT NOW.

People like Bundy look like they are just hard working men standing up to the evil government at first, so you elevate him to be your standard bearer and parade him in front of your base.

By the time you learn actual facts about what an idiot he is you just pretend that they don't exist and distract and deny. Because at this point if you are in for a dime you are in for a dollar. All you can do is hope that the doesn't feth up to much or that a new story to rally your base shows up so you can let the current clusterfeth fade away.

Damn you D. You just had to freaking tempt me to look. After reading that, loosely termed, article. Truth be told it was a freaking "Hershey Squirt" of an article. I had to give myself three Epi/Antropine Injectors into my thigh and insert needle through my breast pocket cover bending the needles downward.
