This is back in the 90s. I had an army of Space Marines that were all plastic, except for the Dread. I was playing against Genestealers, who were all metal. The game was inside a place where there was no air conditioning, and my army was sitting beside a big plate glass window.
We finished a game, decided it was too hot to continue, and left everything on the table while we went to cool off. Came back and my marines were melting. Arms were drooping, torsos were warping, guns were suddenly aimed at the floor, heads were popping off, etc. His genestealers, that were metal, were too hot to handle.
We moved everything into the shade and counted our losses. I lost 60% of my ultramarines that day.

Kill teams. Opponent is using 20 dark eldar warriors with 2 splinter cannons. I send some bp/csword death company running forward out in the open ahead of some tac marines. He proceeds to empty every shot from his team into the first DC guy, who takes it all and asks for more. Think he passed 11/13 saves, and made both fnp's on the fails.
Just played against new orks yesterday. Got the drop on a warboss+nobs+painboy squad with two full BA jump squads with priests. Both throw all their firepower in first, causing 1 wound. They all furiously assault afterwards, and cause 3 more wounds out of their some-odd 50 s5 attacks. Both squads are then powerclawed to death. Can't wait to finally get my own new codex.

This was back in 3.5 just after starting my chaos army. I was playing a 2k game against another chaos player, I was playing Iron Warriors and he was playing Khorne with a bloodthirster. After unloading almost all my firing into that blood thirster I got it down to 2 wounds, he then charged his blood thirster into my chaos dreadnought, after a single round of combat I had taken off 1 wound and he had taken both my arms and immobilized my dreadnought. Next turn he blows up my dreadnought and in a blaze of justified rage I manage to wound the bloodthirster and my opponent fails both armor and fnp.

My first game against someone who wasn't a good friend. I was pretty nervous playing a stranger in a semi-competitive environment.
It was 1500 pts of his Tau vs. my Orks. 5th Ed.
I took heavy losses slogging it across the table on a short edge deployment. Once I hit home however it was a slaughter.
The memorable part was the final CC of the 6th round. Tabled the opponent and had exactly one Slugga Boy left.
Epic win for Krom the lowly Ork boy!

In my first league I didn't realize how competitive my Ork list was. (6th ed). I tabled my opponents in my first two or three games and by the time I won my third there was a call to arms.
One of the players was running an Iyandan(sp) Wraithknight list and was also tabling people left and right. In our game, I got a 20 boy squad into CC with the Wraithknight. And the nob after 2 turns and losing only 5-6 boys managed to Power klaw it to death. In my head the Nob climbed up the knight and klaws it's head off. It was epic.

Some of my more recent "favorite moments" are involving the legendary RHINO THAT WOULDN'T DIE!!!!
Sternguard in a rhino roll up to the middle of the board, takes a S10 rail gun shot....and survives with only a hull point lost. Same rhino later nimbly manages to avoid Riptide blasts for two turns, all the while the remaining Sternguard are taking potshots at it with poison rounds. It survived the whole game!
Same loadout in a Carnage game, the Rhino takes all sorts of incoming fire from 3 different armies, loses a couple of hull points, survives the game parked right next to the contested objective. We couldn't stop laughing as every one of my opponents made it their mission to kill that blasted Rhino after the first couple of turns!
First game of 7th, same sternguard-laden Rhino, again survives the whole game with 2 hull points intact (it was my only unit left that wasn't summoned!) after getting shot at by wraithlords, avatars, and gobs of S6 shots.
I'm seriously thinking about modifying the Crimson Fist emblem on this particular Rhino so that the middle finger is raised

Best was before there was a forge world and amourcast was making the vehicles. I remember this large yellow banana eldar ship one of our buddies spent a lot of money on, painted it and put it on the table to surprise us. I was on the Ork side sharing figures one of the gaming group bought. We had the first turn I think and he had a shock attack gun. He took one shot hit the banana, and when he rolled on the table the result was complete destruction of the machine or crew. This nice new shiny toy that was going to roll over us was done before it got to move.
I think we continued the game without the owner as he was so peeved he went up to his kitchen to have a drink. (yes he was hosting the game and that is why this was the first we saw this ship)
We never laughed so hard

Remember another one. I was running a necromunda campaign. We had about 8 gangs going in multi-player run scenarios. We had one player who would hide every game and then swoop in at the end.
So we had a scenario that a force of imperial guard was coming in to clear out the hive and the forces had to break through the guard. Played the long way and the player set up in the back letting the others fight the small guard force on the table edge. As he was just sitting there the main guard force came from the back edge and wiped out his entire gang as he had to face them alone.
Yes the scenario was set up for him. We had a great time laughing at him. It ended the campaign and I do not think he ever played Necromunda again as he was on the botten with no gang members left.

1st edition, taking down a terminator with gretchin, not a captain or anything just some random dude who they got close enough to and got lucky.
Figured they got clogged in his cooling ducts or something.
That and also in RT, agreed a point value game, to be played on a judge dread building map, I brought ten marines, reasonable range of weapons.. not long before we started my oppo asked me to look up the cost of rad suits, I noted he didn't need them as I had no rad grenades, the reply came, with an evil grin "no but I do".
Don't remember who won but I do remember it was a fun game, him with rad grenades and me with a bomb-bot carrying a vortex bomb.
Plus 1st edition mad boyz... you almost could run the game as single player against them for the control you actually had, so wish I still had the models.

When I was about 11, I really got into 40K. So I go to the shop and an employee asks if I want to have a game with him to see if I like it! Anyway, it was obvious that he let me do damage since I was a kid... but yeah, my Dreadnought plodded over to one of his Tyranids, picked it up, and squished it.
Ever since then, I've really wanted a Dreadnought and, even though I never got one, I have a Helbrute.
That's eight years ago, coming up to nine, and it's safe to say that is my most memorable 40K moment.
One day in the future, provided that I still like 40K, I'm going to have loads of Dreadnoughts.

Had a new moment that will stay with me for a long time just last night.
I took a land raider for the first time this year as it really hadn't done much for me in the past. I guess it wanted to earn a spot on my go-to list because it went on a tear! First turn it took out a ghost ark in one shot, which in turn took out four warriors, brought them to more than 25% casualties, and the squad broke and off the table they went! That same game turn, it shrugged off 6 haywire shots from his deep striking crypteks.
2nd turn it delivered the hammernators to my opponents CCB and they smashed it up proper like. My opponent tried to charge the Landraider with wraiths and a destroyer lord, but due to the difficult terrain penalty they missed it by an inch.
The rest of the game it took out the crypteks, blew up an Annihilation Barge, and finished off a decked out destroyer lord! Best 250 points I had ever spent in a game of 40k!

I had an IG Veteran Sarge who'd always do heroic feats, one of my earliest IG models. He'd always have a shotgun and one way or another I always had jammy luck with him. His squad and he had killed Riptides, Daemon Princes, won games, killed Necron Lychguard retinues and Overlords, etc.
So I made a new model for him, where he had a red beret. Figured he deserved a promotion, though worried I'd have lost his luck
In the first tournament I take his new model to, he wins a game for me by killing a lone wounded Obliberator with a bolter snap-shot out a shaken chimera at 24". That Oblit was capturing an objective. Even more remarkable, 2 Chimeras and a Leman Russ Executioner had already failed to scratch the same Oblit

One of two things, I can't quite decide between them:
1. The time that I charged a Vendetta (in 5th, when they were just skimmers) and exploded it with a Nob's Power Klaw. My mental image of the moment was that the Nob executed a Shoryuken and corkscrewed upward, punching straight through the fuselage.
2. The time that my Grots intimidated a Genestealer unit into retreating. This wasn't a morale check, but the owner deciding they were too weakened to take the Grots. It's the only time the Grots ever intimidated someone, and I was unreasonably proud of them.

Colonel Telson versus a terminator armored chaos sorcerer.
This is a 6th edition game, it was my imperial guard versus a friend of mine's Chaos space marines, which were heavy on the terminators. It seemed that luck was against me, every one of my heavy weapons could not scratch his troops, who were slowly moving across the board, filling my troops with bolter rounds the entire time. The sorcerer had the combustion psychic powers, which turned enemies into explosives. He slowly walked towards my command squad, making their heads explode, and the flesh-shrapnel killing their companions. Finally it was Colonel Telson and his faithful banner bearer left. they pulled their laspistols and tried to kill the heretic, but it was to no avail. The banner bearer was impaled on the force staff and flung to the ground. As the sorcerer turned his attention towards Telson, a grin stretched across both the sorcerer's and my friend's face.
As the beast pointed his staff at the lone colonel, Telson decided he had enough of these throne accursed heretics on this throne accursed world. Energizing his power fist, colonel telson threw his weight into this single punch, ripping through the centuries old armor, and into the sorcerer's skin. As the sorcere hobbled back, shocked at the sudden assault from the mortal before him, Colonel Telson struck agin and again and again, beating the chaos worshipper into a pulp. I didn't win the game, in fact I lost horribly, but that shining moment was enough to make it worth it.
tl;dr: My imperial guard commander with a power fist killed a terminator armored chaos sorcerer in three rounds of close combat without losing a wound.

So this was 3 weeks after escalation. And as such I found an excuse to field my stompa. My friend used his baneblade. And we had other unimportant units here and there. So turn 2 stompa is close enough to his blade to charge, but out of range of the cannon template. So I aim, ask for any last words, roll for scatter......and template lands on top of stompa, penetrates, and rolls 6 for result and extra hull points, enough to end its orks life....my orks always seem to blow themselves up.

Marbo.
It was my Guard against my brothers (and main rival/opponents) Chaos.
I was getting stomped, and Marbo decided to take his time getting to the field and arrived by default on turn 4.
Rolls up on a squad of 15 chaos marines and 2 obliterators loitering nearby that (remarkably) did not have MoN.
Tosses his demo charge on the oblits and kills them both outright. Then, hunkering in the ruins he arrived in, gave approximately zero feths about the 25+ bolter rounds sent his way by making about 15 2+ cover saves.
In my turn, he calmly (act of desparation on my part) charges the large power armoured mass, takes a single wound from overwatch (which only managed to aggrivate him more it seems) meets the power-fisted champion in a challenge, and promptly ruins his day.
For his finale, he then catches the squad in a sweeping advance after they failed their leadership with boxcars, eliminating the squad.
Did I lose the game? Of course.
Was that awesome? Oh yes.
