Hey guys, I noticed there wasn't a UFC 175 thread yet and it's almost here! What are some of everyone's predictions/hopes?

Shortly into each fight, the fighters will abandon all semblance of discipline, technique, or skill, and resort to rolling around on the ground, grappling like schoolchildren. You know, standard UFC fight.

Well, I pretty much walked into to that one.
On a more serious note, I hope Rousey retains her belt. It'd be really interesting if she can get the armbar off on a BJJ Black Belt.

This seems like a pretty lackluster card. Struve vs mitrione could be ok. And wiedman vs machida should be real good. But there aren't many good fights IMO past that. I'm hoping rousey gets her head soccer kicked into the first row ala old pride rules ;p. I cannot stand that woman.
@jimsolo I'm assuming that's sarcasm?

The dragon via 3rd round KO with a head kick, Rousey in the 2nd with a RNC, I dont think she can arm bar a BJJ and JJJ blackbelt

I think the Weidman machida fight is gonna be really interesting. Machida is so elusive, so it's gonna be neat to see if Chris can get him on huge mat. If he can, I think he ground and pounds out a win in 5.
Rhonda will win, most likely by submission, probably in the 2nd round, but the 1st wouldn't surprise me. I'm just not convinced any woman can hang with her on the ground, especially after her match agains the Olympian.
Struve is gonna knock out Mitrione in the first round.

TUF definitely made her look like that, but she seems pretty nice and down to earth in most of her interviews, no? The not shaking Miesha's hand thing could have been handled better, but can you blame a person for standing up for what they believe is the most respectful thing to do?

Honestly, I give people lots of leeway on the way they act as far as fighting entertainment goes. But it's been death by 1000 cuts with Rhonda. Just lots of stuff adding up for me.

Weidman will win. The internet will drown in complaints of it being "Fluke win number three" from Silva's delusional followers.

assuming machida doesnt break a leg....he isnt going to get KO'd from show boating so unless weidman takes him down and lays on him for 3 rounds it would be hard to call a weidman win a fluke.

Yah I hear yah with that. Haven't watched ufc stuff in almost 2 years. I know this is gonna make me look like one of "those guys". But I really miss early-mid 2000's pride/ufc. And this new product just doesn't do it for me.
Heard wiedman looked pretty dominant though.

Agreed.... See, I LOOOOVED growing up watching the "Golden Age of Boxing" (even though it was all VHS/DVD copies of old fights), and really started to dislike boxing towards the end of Roy Jones Jr.'s run of dominance, as I felt the game had become far too showy/hip-hoppy for me.
Then I saw this *new* thing, UFC, and thought "hey, this guy is a karate fighter, and that guy does muay thai, and this third guy does something else entirely" and it was great fun to watch the different styles collide.... Now, it's all hip-hop show with their D-bag Affliction or Tapout shirts, flat brimmed hats on sideways which just pisses me off..... and it's gone from awesome, unique fights to everyone does the SAME form of fighting that they are calling "MMA". I get that we can "blame" the shift in fighting styles on one dude who dominated the game for quite some time due to his style, but I just wish that some guys would go back to more of that older style of truly mixing the schools of martial arts within the fight, not the person.

There really isn't a "vast" amount of styles though. For the most part is wrestling, jiu jitsu/judo, and Muay Thai/boxing. Sure there are some that change up a style or two in their mix. But that's neither here not there. What did it in for me is the edging closer and closer to being pro wrestling like spectacle and all the wrestlers turning MMA into point fighting basically. I miss the days of dudes just opening up and actually fighting. Even though I really enjoy a good demolishing ground and pound I feel like the prominence of grab and control wrestlers really hurts. I really miss the days of chutebox just unloading on people. Of fedor being a god amongst fighters. Of GSP running through champions like they were nothing. Of rampage slamming people around. Of wondering who the next Gracie to dominate will be. Of UFC sending guys to pride tournaments to see what both organizations were made of. Not havig a strong national Japanese market really dilutes MMA IMO.
Like I said I know this makes me sound like a dumb hipster, but whatever. It's how I feel and why I only check out stuff occasionally anymore.

The problem with the Japanese market is that they've proven in the UFC that they can't beat the best the UFC has to offer....

That's kind of what I was saying.... Back in the mid 90s, before a ton of stuff changed for UFC (which probably saved the sport, honestly) you had situations where you had a 600lb. Sumo Wrestler facing off against a 200lb (if that) karate black belt. We simply don't see guys who specialize/dedicate their lives to a style/school of fighting. These days, everyone practices MMA. And to me, MMA is boring as feth.... I'd actually LOVE to see a pure Muay Thai boxer go against a Greco-Roman Wrestler or Collegiate Wrestler. I'd love to see someone who does JKD, face off against someone who practices Krav Maga, etc.

because rampage, shogun, and Anderson silva never came to the UFC and became champions or anything. Also did you ever see what happened when Lidell in his prime went to pride? Did the UFC prove to be the stronger organization? Sure, but that doesn't mean having an organization like pride wasn't good for MMA. Also cages make wrestlers infinately better. Very few of the current wrestling based fighters could handle being reset all the time once a person reached the ropes.

Problem is how many Japanese guys were willing to give up the kind of money they were making in japan to come to America? I'm sure guys like Sakuraba or kid Yamamoto and others would have done fine in the UFC. But they just didn't care about leavin japan.
