Subject: Humanity during the Dark Age of Technology

I posted this on Warseer, but thought I should ask here as well.
The small amount of lore that I can find suggests that humanity was at its pinnacle during the age of technology, and that the Imperium is a rusty shadow of what it used to be. I was curious if anyone with more lore knowledgable than me could point me towards more info on this era, including house or official rules regarding DAOT humanity.
Any thoughts on how DAOT humans compare to the Tau/Eldar?

It's worth remembering that the DAOT was the pinnacle of Eldar power as well so humanity was tiny and irrelevant at the time. Humanity is much more of a threat to them now.
As for the Tau I'm not sure they even existed as they do in their current form and they certainly weren't out of a primitive stage of society.
As for lore all I can suggest is looking at Lexicanum and checking the page on it and some of the relics (Slaughtersong and Bloodtide for example) probably help you infer information about the Dark Age.

I was thinking more a cross-era comparison. I know the Tau were savages at best, if they even existed. But I'm curious as to how DAOT humanity compared to the Tau now.

Oh I see.
Considering the Tau are about equal to the Imperium now then they would be massively outmatched as the DAOT military would have had much more powerful weapons. The Tau might eventually get to the same level though as they are advancing in technology faster than other races.

Much flashier crap. They would toast modern day Tau with very little effort.

http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Dark_Age_of_Technology On this site you will find lots of information regarding 40k lore. DAoT Humanity, at least compared to 40k era Humanity and Tau was massively advanced, up to a point that 40k humans usually regard DAoT tech as a form of magic.

DAOT Humanity was comparable to the Eldar Empire at their height, barring the Eldar Dread Machine that could create anything. But weaponized black holes like those wielded by DOAT Humanity are pretty cool. Especially when they fire their shots back in time.

DAoT was basically Star Trek x 10.
Fancy ships. Reliable teleportation. (Probably even had replicators although that is a wild guess) Vast power sources. Better ships, better weapons.
Then it all went to pot and went grim, dirty and hopeless

By equal, do you mean purely in terms of technology?
And the Tau aren't really advancing faster. I can't recall the source, but while only a few thousand years passed outside the warp storm, for the tau, 50,000 years of advancement happened hence the reason they went from savages to technological marvels. They aren't "better" at technology than humans. Humans reached an even further level of technology in less than 30,000 years.
As far as how the humans in the DAOT would far against the Eldar, the Eldar, pinnacle or not, weren't really much a factor for humans at that point. The human expansion happened in their face and in areas of conflict, the humans were at least their match. They continued to expand. Knights, for example, were the equal to Eldar equivalent.

The Eldar were also confined to a specific area of space mostly(the current EoT) and were content in their localized debaucheries.
Mankind had spread across the entire Galaxy(and possibly beyond)
Anyway, DAoT mankind's technology rivaled the Eldar. And possibly approached the Necrons.
The only area the Eldar were more advanced would have been in the area of psychic ability and technology.
The modern Tau look like club thumping savages comparatively, and still are in some respects. While the Tau baseline tech might be better than what the average Imperial world has, the Ad Mech still has some technology which would utterly flabbergast any Tau technician. They just don't use it much because its either fragile or they don't want to risk losing it.

Death of Integrity deals with DAoT tech, as does one of the Grey Knights novels (Dark Adeptus).

Yup, I don't remember which GK novel, but it basically involves a Daemon who had possessed a Titan STC which was on a planet that had been stuck in the Warp for thousands of years.
